As long as it is within the 30-day trial window, they will certainly let you exchange it.  And just as certainly, they are going to charge you the 10% restocking fee.

For what it's worth though, I'm loving my 32GB 3GS!

There have been reports that some store managers are waiving the 10% restocking fee when you are upgrading to a larger iPhone.

yah i also did this myself. i had the iphone 2G when the vibrate function deciced to go out around the same time that i was do for an upgrade anyways. i purchased the 16gig iphone 3G and found out about 2 two days after that the 3GS was coming out mid june so i went into the store and they advised that it would not be a problem. the only thing that sucked about my situation though was that at&t would not return the 3G that i had bought initially until the day i picked up my reserved iphone 3GS so at one point i had owned 3 iphones but only had two in my possession. hahah i was not charged a restocking fee however i also had not opened up my 3G iphone packaging so i am not quite sure how your at&t store may handle the whole restocking charge but they definitely should not have any problem doing the return as long as you are within your thirty days of original purchase. i hope this helps.
