I've been with AT&T since before Cingular, through the Cingular change, now back to AT&T. This has caused my activation to be on hold since last night. I've called in eight times now, and gotten different answers almost every time. Here's what I've gotten over the course of the last 8 calls (the last 2 calls in particular were informative, not so much before that):
Those old rate plans are incompatible (I did get that last night, and it's been posted here before). What's news is that the department that handles changing plans from old AT&T to Cingular/New AT&T is NOT open. No one else has the ability to help those of us still who have old AT&T plans. They are "trying" to get that department to open tomorrow to help us out. Call #7's support person said it would "definitely" be open tonight, call #8 said not until at least tomorrow, but it may not open until Monday.
I'm going to try again tomorrow morning and see if they've actually managed to get that department open, but it really doesn't sound promising. I kind of assume the word "trying" is a euphemism for "they're not scheduled to work, but we don't want you to know that because it makes us look bad" It sounds like we're going to have to wait until business hours.
If anyone with an old AT&T plan manages to get their phone working before monday, let us all know!
