Thats their problem, they say they can't manually add EDGE back on via MediaNet it *requires* activation at the time of billing apparently. And only at billing. *mind boggled*

Krantz,

I had the exact same problems yesterday.  They even requested that I upgrade to 1.1.3, replace my sim card, exchage my phone at the Apple Store.  I was disconnected 16 times yesterday.  I will say that when I called Apple, their support was outstanding and often sat through all the disconnects with Apple.

My worst experience was a rep telling me that I had to purchase a $25 minute plan to reinstate my browsing ability.  As soon as I did that and it did not solve my problem, the rep hung up.

It finally got to a point last night that I converted to a contract plan and dumped my gophone plan.

Another GoPhone user here whose data plan is messed up.  I got it work by calling, but hung up before realizing that I am paying per KB.
And no text messaging.  I guess I have to call again.  So far $40 poorer

That is their "fix". Dropping MediaNet, which actives the EDGE network, but also activates their outrageous kb charges.
So the fix is really just adding insult to injury. I will not pay some $80,000, 1500 page bill at the end of the month!

I believe it is an AT&T issue with MEdiaNet and Edge as well. I am a GoPhone subscriber to AT&T and my account cycled today. At first I suspected apple and their 1.1.3 update but now think otherwise. I was not able to get EDGE on the iPhone after the update from 1.1.2 though. I have a Nokia N95 as well as the iPhone. I cannot connect to the internets using either device. I only wish now that I switched to the N95 immediately after I updated the iPhone yesterday and could not access the EDGE network as well as before my account refreshing with AT&T today. This would have proven who was at fault. The N95 is set to ask for an access point whenever I connect to the web. Along with the wifi connections I see MEdiaNet as well as Cingular MMS as options on the N95. Before today I have had no issues with the N95 and its ability to access the net with either option. I now have tickets open with both Apple and AT&T.I heard from both 2nd level support reps at each site that the problem was not an issue with the service or device they are responsible for respectively. After reading what I have written so far I am not sure which company is at fault. I only know that I am inconvenienced as I am not around wifi at all times, so with either device I am without internet connectivity during those times. That is until a fix is applied from either entity.

Same problem here in East Cambridge, MA. I upgraded to 1.1.3 yesterday and noticed today that I lost EDGE. The reason I only noticed now is due to their awful coverage in East Cambridge, it's not like I get to use it all that often. Still annoying though since I'm paying for it.

I noticed the phone activated itself at the end of the update so it is most likely related to that. I hadn't synched to iTunes in a while, so it might not have anything to do with 1.1.3.

This is most certainly not related to anything on the iPhone itself.  My household has 2 iPhones, one on 1.1.2 and one on 1.1.1.  They both lost their EDGE subscriptions yesterday, were 'fixed' and were unsubscribed again this morning.

To be blunt, I'm using the gophone option simply because of things like this.  I have no desire to have a 2 year lock-in to any company because I might want/need to switch if or when their service goes bad.  I left at&t years ago when their eft (auto payment) system was so bad that every month they charged me late fees even though their originial transactions always happend on schedule, but the billing and invoicing systems took over 20 days to register the transactions.  the fix then: pay with a paper check instead of auto pay via eft.

Seems like system flaws here again, and after 2 hours on the phone yesterday and another 1 today, with many disconnects on the way to supervisors both days, I have no EDGE, and I'm getting many, many $.01 charge and credit messages.  I just had to clear 10 of them before I could answer a call.

And the irony is, that the one thing that I'm being told will absolutely positively resolve this is accepting a contract.  But why would someone accept a contract to get basic service to work and subject themselves to a penalty if they then decided or needed to switch providers because of poor service?

Same problem here (Portland, OR) with my GoPhone plan and firmware 1.1.3. It's been driving me crazy, but I'm glad to know I'm not alone. Actually, I've experienced numerous apparent EDGE outages on my iPhone, but most of them did not last long enough for me to really care.

This one has lasted more than long enough.

Another Cambridge, MA user here. My Edge access (and SMS) is also broken. Of course, it's after 6pm so I can't call 611 for help and from what I just read, calling the 866 'emergency' number isn't gonna help either.

And yeah, the coverage here is abysmal. I can make calls at the dining table or in one corner of the office. That's it.

Please fix this ASAP, AT&T. This is not amusing...
