You will probably have noticed that if you connect to the internet out of the box, it says you are connecting to MY ISP -- In reality - CIngular has set their MY ISP setting to go through their proxy server, wap.cingular. In order to go through the internet directly (the only way you can get streaming video for example, for MobiTV, etc) you need to add a real isp setting to your phone. Under settings/connections/connections: Look for MY ISP and tap on "add a new modem connection" Enter a Name for the connection: REAL ISP or something like that Select a Modem: cellular line (GPRS) for 8125/ cellular line (GPRS 3G) for 8525 use the access point name isp.cingular On the next page, enter either ISP.CINGULARGPRS.COM or ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM (either will work) for username and CINGULAR1 for password (make sure they are all in caps) Leave Domain name blank Under advanced, make sure the only things selected are "Use server assigned IP address" and "Use IP header compression" - leave everything else unselected. Click ok and then finish You now have a real ISP connection set up. Under network selection, do not select Auto or My ISP - select REAL ISP(or whatever you called it) WARNING: Make sure you have PDAConnect or DataConnect if using this network setting - you will be charged per kp Message Edited by RonAnnArbor on 11-26-200606:06:25 PM Message Edited by RonAnnArbor on 11-27-200608:14:27 PM

Same settings I've been using -- and posting about -- to access live/streaming audio/video. Hasn't made a difference to most people yet, though. They haven't read my settings and still insist on using wap.cingular or MediaNet/MediaMax to try to do the same thing and then want to know why they can't get it. Thanks for posting, though. Maybe SOMEONE will read it.

Great job with this post! Just curious about comparing this to the openDNS at the wap address. I have both set up in my connections. Should I use the Auto select button, or choose ISP button over the wap button? Again, Great Job!

Luckily I had been reading this board for quite a while before I got my 8525, so I knew what to expect, but I have to tell you, RonAA, the people at Cingular Customer Service (Even Business service, which I've generally found to be better) don't make it very easy for the noobs to believe all of the things you're trying to tell them about their data and data packages.
When my 8525 came, I called Customer service to switch from the unlimited Media Net package I had with my last device to PDA Connect. I told the guy on the phone what I wanted to do, and he said, "That's unecessary, you should stay with your $20 plan since the 8525 is a smartphone, not a PDA."
I explained to him that I believed he was wrong and that while I didn't want to cost myself an extra couple hundred of dollars a year if I didn't have to, I also didn't want to be penny-wise-pound-foolish. . .that I had hear some horror stories about huge bills landing on people who had chosen the wrong playn.
His response was, "Sir, I've been doing this a long time. I know what I'm talking about."
Still, I asked him one more time if he wouldn't mind checking with a supervisor about this and he said, "Fine, tell you what I'll do, I'll call Data Services and have them tell you that this is the right thing."
He put me on hold for about 15 minutes and said, "Sir, you are correct, you need to be on the PDA Connect plan. Is there anything else I can do to help you?
So I guess what I'm saying is all of these people feel like they have more reason to believe these really convincing but mis-informed (or undertrained) people on the phone than the strangers posting on this board. It's kinda hard to blame them for trying to save 20 buck a month. . .especially when Customer Service is so insistent that they know what they're selling the customers.
Anyway, I guess this is a long way around saying, thanks to all the people on this board who spend so much time providing really useful help to discerning, but new users, and to Cingular--please, please, please, get your reps trained and informed BEFORE you launch a product like this (you'd be surprise how many customer service types I've talked to in the last week who are telling me that I couldn't possibly even have the 8525 yet. . .it must be the 8125. . .but that's another post for another time).

On the next page, enter ISP.CINGULARGPRS.COM for username and CINGULAR1 for password (make sure they are all in caps)
that should be ISP@CINGULARGPRS.COM.

Hi RonAnnArbor, I have been trying for several hours to set my 8125 up according to your instructions. Unfortunately it's not working, and for the life of me, I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong.
I get an error message telling me it cannot connect and to check the settings. The settings appear to be correct. I am using all caps where instructed. The password is CINGULAR1, correct? I am able to log on using the cingulargprs - wap.cingular connection. Can you help? Thank You email: {personal content edited to prevent spam}
