For you folks that have the former AT&T Wireless blue SIM cards and trying to configure your unlocked Cingular 8525 / HTC Hermes (TYTN) to work with mMode's GPRS (2G) / EDGE (2.5G) / UMTS (3G) services, here's your good news.
I spent the past few days trying to figure this out on my own since Cingular Wireless no longer supports any troubleshooting service of the former AT&T Wireless through calling or on their web site. I believe that they purposely deleted it so you would have to spend more money to upgrade your plan to the Cingular plan. I just want to share the following information with you since this type of service is unavailable everywhere else even with Cingular's customer service.
This was done on my Cingular 8525 / HTC Hermes (TYTN) with Windows Mobile 5. You just need to do the following configurations on your device step-by-step. Here's how it works:
================================================================================================
IPS Settings:
Start > Settings > Connections (Tab) > Connections > Advanced (Tab) > Select Networks
Under where it says "Programs that automatically connect to the Internet should connect using:", select "New". General Tab: Enter a name for these settings: mMode Modem Tab: Add “New”. Enter a name for the connection: mMode Select a modem: Cellular Line (GPRS, 3G) Access point name: proxy User name: <blank> Password: <blank> Domain:* <blank> Click on “Advanced”. TCP/IP Tab: Use server-assigned IP address: Option selected Use software compression: Unchecked Use IP header compression : Unchecked Servers Tab: Use server-assigned address: Option selected Click “OK” and then click “Finish”. Proxy Settings Tab: Check “This network connects to the Internet”. Check “This network uses a proxy server to connect to the Internet”. Proxy server: 010.250.250.054 Click on “Advanced”. HTTP: 010.250.250.054 Port: 8080 WAP: 010.250.250.054 Port: 8080 Secure WAP Proxy: <blank> Port: 9203 Socks Proxy: 127.0.0.1 Port: 1080 Type: Socks 4 Click "OK" to finish. Click "OK" to save and exit.
MMS Settings:
Messages > Menu > Tools > Options > Accounts (Tab) > MMS > Servers (Tab)
Add “New”. Server name: mMode MMS Gateway: 10.250.250.100 Port number: 9201 Server address: http://mmsc.mymmode.com Connect via: The Internet Sending size limitation: 300K (if available for selection) Click “OK”. Highlight the “mMode MMS” you just created and click “Set As Default”. Then click “OK” to finish.
APN Setting: (Optional and available only on the Cingular 8525 before the New AT&T 8525 ROM update version 2.15.502.3)
Start > Programs > Wireless Modem > Menu > APN Setting
Preset GPRS connections: Checked Access Point Name (APN): proxy Click “OK” and make sure the “Connection Type = USB”, then click “Done” to finish.
================================================================================================
Now you can browse the internet, check e-mails, and receive MMS messages by using mMode's GPRS (2G) / EDGE (2.5G) / UMTS (3G) data services on your unlocked Cingular 8525 / HTC Hermes (TYTN) with your former AT&T Wireless blue SIM card.

not to derail your post, but i'm not sure they deleted it to force people to dump their old att wireless plans. with phones now starting to show "at&t" and the rebranding nearly complete, i think having setup guides related to the old blue at&t that are incompatible with the more recent orange at&t incarnate could potentially cause some confusion.
good information though, thanks for getting that out for the other blue customers.

Thanks a ton! I just tested with the settings above and was able to connect and receive a MS direct push email. (Then disconnected because i don't have a data plan!) Now all I want to know is if I add the "mMode Unlimited" - $24.99 (Only mMode options available to my AT&T Blue plan according to the site) If it will let me use the net as i please? Full speed and all? Side note... Anyone know if there is anyway to get the DirectPush to work with WiFi? It will work if I have it check every 5 min but not "live" as it does while connected to mMode or through USB.

So there are no hacks or any ways to get around that? I just can't believe it works when connected to my PC via USB but can't when connected via WiFi. I mean your always going to be using a SSL connection no matter how your connecting so they can't say security is the reason

Nope, seems to work with any PC too. Inside or outside of my company network. (Because the DNS for the server is both internal and external of course) ActiveSync 4.5 on the computers. Just cancel when it wants to partner and it goes into guest mode. Then DirectPush magically starts working and the "No cell network" error goes away. Try it yourself Turn off the cell connection so that ActiveSync shows you the "no cell network" error, then plug it into the computer. Magic? Dunno but it seems silly that they are blocking the use of WiFi for DirectPush. And to keep on topic... anyone know about the mMode plans and any headache they might bring me?

I did a quick test from my sons machine. I disabled my phone connection and then connected to his computer. Although the error goes away and the the Direct Push in the Comm Manager is still green I don't seem to be getting any Direct Push .. I sent myself several emails and even added a new contact via my Exchange servers OWA, not once did I get the new mail notifications (That you get with Direct Push), emails pushed or the new contact pushed right away. Regular activesync is still connecting to the server thru the PCs connection and emails will show up in the inbox which is expected as do the other items like new contacts. But that is only happening once every 5 minutes according to the activesync log. Now, when I unhook from the pc, turn my phone back on and connect back via cellular I can send myself an email, change a contact or whatever and within seconds activesync begins syncing right then and there. If I send an email within seconds I get a new mail notification popup on the screen.

Strange it doesn't work for you. I promise it IS working for me. It even updates my contacts LIVE if I webmail in and watch and change stuff on either device. But back to the topic and my question about mMode plans... I checked my account online today and it does show that I used Data. It has the following two entry's. 04/26 03:40 PM Internet/MEdia Net 15KB 04/26 03:40 PM Internet/MEdia Net 1KB That is what it says, so I just want to make sure that's what it should say. I really just want to make sure (mMode = "Internet" before I sign up for a package online. Anyone able to answer that with any certainty? Thanks for the replies.

Please discuss about something topic-related, thank you.
Yes, mMode has the "internet" feature that allows you to access data on the web.
