You've already been told how she is doing it. She is not using data. She is using short message texts. Google FBOOK. If Yahoo Messenger is preinstalled on her phone, then she has the capability of going around the texting restriction, since the restriction is on the phone number and Yahoo Messenger doesn't use the phone number. Yahoo Messenger only uses data for instant messaging, not the texting. If Yahoo is not preinstalled on her phone, then it's possible that she installed a Yahoo app or something similar on her phone.

i honestly cant see this using some yahoo program... i really think its more an instance of the parental controls being screwed up and she is sending sms to fbook.

if there is a data block on the phone then yahoo im would NOT work, as it uses data to sign in and out...

That's for the instant messaging part. You don't need data for SMS. You can even sign in through SMS.

Okay, please forgive me for being dense and tech-challenged.  Is SMS the same as a text?  It does not seem to be because my niece cannot send text messages during school hours but she can send these SMS.  I think yahoo mobile must be what she is using.  The blocks and parental controls on her phone worked fine until she discovered this yahoo ability to update her Facebook status.  I can see how sending a message to Facebook could possibly not use data, but I still can't see why the texting block won't stop this.  She did have her phone confiscated so the problem is solved until she gets it back....and she will.

As far as I know, yes, text is the same as SMS.

texts and SMS are the same.. "Short message service"  Verizon can block premium texting. Meaning, she won't be able to send texts to things such as social networking sites.
