I have no data plan but have WiFi.  I have been told by ATT that there is no charge for WiFi but I haven't received my first bill yet.   There are two browsers on my phone but neither will access the internet and I am connected to WiFi.

Any suggestions?

Here are a few links that I found on AT&T's website, with step-by-step directions on how to configure a WiFi network on the BB 8320.

1) http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=KB92041

2) http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=KB92044

3) http://www.wireless.att.com/answer-center/main.jsp?t=solutionTab&ps=solutionPanels&solutionId=KB92040

Here is a video that I found on how to set up a WiFi connection on the BB 8320 that might be helpful to you as well.

Thank you very, very much, Irish Rose.  I will take some time to look at these sites and the video.  I do love the BB, though, just for texting and good quality phone reception.  Hope others will read your post.

Irish Rose - Are you aware of similar instructions for the 8900?   Oh, I guess since the 8900 hasn't been released yet, there wouldn't be!

I would imagine that the WiFi on the AT&T branded 8900 will work the same as the WiFi on the 8320.

I am having the same issue and although this post was helpful in the first link provided ATT gives a list of two prereq's that are needed in order to connect to a network. 1. Turn WiFi on. 2.Blackberry data plan. Please correct me if im wrong but the original post stated there was no data plan on that line which is the same case as mine. I would also like to use home and school networks without a data plan which ATT said i could do when purchasing this phone a few days ago but as of yet i have not found a viable solution. Would love further suggestions!!

Hi,

I have the same problem as you. I bought a Blackberry Curve 8900 through AT&T and was told i could use WiFi for free.

Now they tell me its a prerequisite to get the ATT Data Plan. i feel completely cheated. I am going to return the phone and get out of this asap.

This is incorrect. At this time, you CAN  use free WiFi on your BB 8900 without a data plan. It is best to place a data block on your account, so that all data is going through your wireless router, and not AT&T's network. Next, you should go into your settings, and change the default browser to "Hotspot".

I know that I have made all the necessary setting but it does not let me connect to WiFi. I would recommend you calling ATT customer care. They sent a PDF that says "RIM BB Data Plan" required as one of the prerequisites.

I believe you are mistaken in this case.
