I am not sure if there has been a change of heart after AT&T merger, Cingular/AT&T really helped me to unlock my Samsung Blackjack (while on contract!) so that I can use other SIM Cards while I am travelling abroad (or even at home). This beats all other ways of illegal unlocking attempts which might be dangerous as I was told that Blackjack only allows 5 unsuccessful tries.

Call +1 916-843-4685 (there may be a way to reach them through 611 and 1-866-cingular but this is the direct number) for Cingular International Support with your IMEI number and they hand over the code if they have it over the phone. If they don't have it, they have to request it from Samsung and it might take a couple of weeks.

To cut one step, have the IMEI handy (which you can get from your blackjack by dialing *#06#). The unlock code is unique to each IMEI and so there is no point in trying someone else's code. Once done, it works with all kinds of SIM cards!

With the blackjack unlocked, can i receive and send pictures and browse the internet with an At&t wireless sims card. Presently i can make and receive calls and text, but can't receive or send pics. I want to know if my settings have to be reconfigured.

yes, you need to reconfigure the internet connectivity / gprs settings to go through the new provider's network. when you switch back to cingular, you need to revert to the old settings.

Will Cingular/ATT unlock a Blackjack for someone who is not a "Cingular/ATT" Customer???
 
Blackjack purchased outright (full price) without contract from going out of business sale (CompUSA) to be used overseas....person can also show proof of purchase...

It is possible, but may not be easy to do, best thing to do is call and ask them.

Is there a way to unlock my phone to get service in an area, where my Cingular phone wont right now?  But my friends' Verizons phone do?

Would I need a new SIM card for this?  Basically I just want to be able to also use the "Verizon tower" near my workplace, so I can still have service while at work.

Yes, you would need to unlock the phone, plus sign up with Verizon to get a SIM card that would let you access their network.

It is my impression that verizon phones do not use SIM cards and is not GSM.  Cingular operates on a different format. You will need to go with a carrier that uses the GSM system. I might be mistaken about Verizon...
