alright i'm sure i'm not the only one in here who's pretty {word filter evasion} with the modifications that AT&T did to the SE firmware: the lack of ability to set mp3s as ringtones and turn off the camera shutter noise, missing themes, the list goes on.

 

i've been looking EVERYWHERE for the original Sony Ericsson US Firmware for the w580 and have been unsuccessful. so i dub this the official thread to discuss and post any findings of the original SE US Firmware for the w580, as i'm sure i'm not the only one who wants to unlock their phone and get back the original firmware.

 

i, personally, do not want to pay wotan server to do this... i already paid enough for the phone and service, so i'm asking that if anyone knows where i can find the original firmware for free, please post links here. step-by-step directions on how to flash the original firmware onto the phone would also be greatly appreciated. thanks.

the only thing to do to shut off the camera shutter is to turn the phone on silent

 

and as for a phone without the cingular {Please don't go around the word filter} there are unlocked, un tampered phones on amazon.com, but they're gonna cost a bit more.

I tend to agree with you on how they customized/branded this phone but it's not exactly good form to flat out exaggerate about

paying a lot for a phone you supposedly got for free (or with shipping and handling) Also remember you will LOSE the IM software and the AT&T mail app built into this phone if you have the factory firmware flashed to this device. And oh yes. you lose your warranty.
