I think you misunderstood him.
He's not talking about Verizon wireless phones... he's talking about Verizon's fiber optic home internet service (FIOS). He's probably got his Microcell plugged into FIOS and is saying that it's not working with his AT&T cell phone(s).
... right?

Welcome back. My guess is that any connection (intenet) that goes over a network other than AT&T's won't work. Absolute proprietary crap.

Correction. Our cell phones are AT&T but my internet connection is not AT&T (it's an independent, Sonic). Maybe AT&T is configured to not work with anything that is related to their competitor.

To clarify, we have FiOS internet service and our MicroCell works well connected to the "Net through FiOS.
The OP didn't provide much in the way of clues to what their problem actually is. I'm guessing the MicroCell isn't initializing for some reason unrelated to the FiOS Internet service.

I also have FiOS (in WA state, so it's offered by Frontier). I had to reactivate my MicroCell. It took several hours to complete, but it works well. I've noticed that it takes a long time for the initial GPS location sync to work during activation. Once that happens, rebooting the device is relatively quick (10-15 minutes).
I am having only one issue - my Samsung devices will discharge quickly when I have 3G data enabled on the phone and it is connected to the MicroCell. I understand that this is a known issue and that a firmware fix is "in the works". I'm actually browsing around trying to find info on when it might be getting rolled out, but no luck so far.

AT&T never announces their upgrades so the only way you'll probably find out is here. Or, if your 3G light is blinking green (or red) in the morning, then that may have been the update.
