So I've been a long time AT&T customer and have multiple lines of service. AT&T "claims" to have the most coverage and the fastest network...PUH-LEEZE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I try to use ny cell phone at my house and can barely manage calls. I call AT&T and the customer service agent tells me that I have an AT&T tower less than one mile from house and the coverage map on their website shows that I should have "best" coverage. This is not the case at all. I explain to the customer service agent that my signal is at best -102 dBm. Thats basically NO service. So I ask about getting a free microcell and I am then told that AT&T is really AT&T Mobility and as such, they do guarentee service in my house and refuse to give me a microcell. So I spend a couple hundred dollars and buy one. I get it all set up and WOW!!!! now my signal is -95 dBm which is still horrible. I call AT&T about the poor service reception even with the microcell and nothing, it's not their problem. Well...I will gladly pay ETF's on three lines and switch providers. I've had enough of the misleading claims that they have the best coverage area. I'm sure AT&T won't care to lose me as a customer just like I won't care to fork over some cash and cancel my service with AT&T.
End of rant...

I get the rant and appreciate your issue, but AT&T is not alone in these challenges. Cell coverage can really vary depending on geography, trees, house structure, etc. I live in a large area of homes and it is a dead zone for Verizon with some coverage from AT&T. I manage over 60 lines for my company and we see all kinds of issues with cell coverage with AT&T and Verizon.
The microcell type technology (Verizon has it also) works in many cases but not all. Again depends alot on specific situations. We see similar problems with WiFi which also varies greatly.
