OK, I just got off the phone with AT&T. It seems that around 7:30 PM they thought they had this problem resolved, but then within an hour their Microcell system went down again in all markets. So as of right now, it is still down and there is no ETA on getting it back up. I can't disconnect mine at all to even retry the registration process. So we are all still in the holding pattern.

Same status here. I just got off the phone with tech support and they told me "it will be a few days". How do they sell something you can't use for a few days. Unbelievable.

Seriously... they were supposed to call me back today with an update. Seems like online activation is finally working but I just get blinking 3G now. And no call-back. Can't wait until iPhone is on Verizon.

Ironic isn't it, that the 911 component has been a major factor in delayed activations on a system that goes down frequently for extended periods.
Yesterday morning I was told by a Customer Service Rep that the system was down nationwide when it wasn't. I don't think they lied, I honestly don't think they know. If AT&T had invested in towers instead of riding the IPhone gravy train, they would rule the US. Instead everyone I know is waiting for Verizon to get the Iphone.

If indeed there is a nation-wide "outage" that could explain why my 3G fails to lock. I purchased my unit yesterday in Boston area, spent day trying to make it work, and this morning it's still a "3G blinking light". Is there a place where AT&T has system status (kind of like the Google dashboard)?

Thanks for the post Boston... at least I'm not alone with the blinking 3G light. I was going to go online and try the disconnect/reconnect again but no point I guess.

Still no luck with my setup. I talked to the "product manager" support and they point the finger at the router. Which is my FIOS ROUTER from VERIZON.
I need to read "Advanced Troubleshooting" now in the http://www.wireless.att.com/media/en_US/swf/3Gmicr

ok Boston....I have mine connected to an Apple Airport (Time Capsule) which is connected to a comcast cable modem. I'm going to plug it directly into the cable modem (bypass router) to see what happens.
