I use FamilyMap all the time and this is the first time I've had this problem - it is showing the wrong location. I don't mind when it can't locate a phone if we're out of the service area, or when it shows a huge circle and can't get more precise, that's fine... but right now, this is the first time when it has simply shown the wrong location - completely, well outside the circle it's showing. I'm locating my own phone with it right now, which is sitting right beside me so yes I'm sure I know where my phone is and I'm locating the correct phone (mine), and it is showing about a 1 mile wide circle where it thinks I am, but I am not in the circle at all. It is showing that I'm on the mainland and actually I'm on an island at least a mile away from the outer edge of the circle. This is a HUGE problem!! I only found this out when my husband was late getting home and wasn't answering his phone, I found his location with the app, which was not where I expected him to be, then I went driving all around the circle area trying to find him, then his location changed to somewhere else weird when I checked again, so I located myself to see if maybe the app was acting up and it is since it's showing my phone somewhere it's not... Pls fix this! Not being able to locate or showing big error region is one thing, that's fine, but showing the WRONG location can be disastrous.

It seems that I have exactly the same problem now. I noted the problem for the first time on Dec. 29, but your post indicates that it started earlier. Famiy map returns the location of our iPhone correctly (but with a larger uncertainty than before), and it is non-smart phones that are located incorrectly. In scientific terms, this is called a systematic error. I am contacting Location Labs (that wireless companies including AT&T outsource the job of locating phones) so that they will hopefully fix the problem.

Good luck. I have had this problem for a few months now and finally called ATT about it. I spent 30 min on the phone with their level 1 and level 2. All they could tell me is delete your wife and add her back on familymap when this happens again. When my wife works in her downtown Chicago office, Familymap would show her within 400 yeards of some location 40 miles away. Yes, 40 miles! This happens many times already. I was very concern the first time it happened because I thought something bad happened to her. I can understand if the service shows her as not locatable because she is deep inside those tall office towers. But to show her 40 miles away within 400 yards is ridiculous. The level 2 I spoke 2 claimed that the signal may have bounced to the wrong cell towers because of the tall buildings. Bounced to 40 miles away, like I believe that! I did screen captures on my iphone showing her at the wrong location at one time and then 9 minutes later showing up in Chicago, and then bouced back to 40 miles away again a few minutes later. I'll show them to someone some day who cares to listen and tries to solve the problem. I feel bad for some parent whose kid may be on some field trip to Chicago and then familymap shows them 40 miles away.

40 miles?? Try 200 miles. Family Map is hit and miss for me. Got it to keep up with my teenagers, but don't think it is reliable. It keep reporting the wrong location.
