3G, Wifi Issue After Captivate Gingerbread Update

Hello-

I updated the phone, and did a factory reset (just to clean things out). Seems to be running nicely, only thing I notice is that when I am connected to Wifi, most of the time the 3G icon is also there, although it doesn't look like it is active (no data transfer). Anyone else seeing this?

I saw with other, earlier 2.3.x deployments people had similar problems, although in some cases this was fixed in a subsequent patch.

I actually have a problem worse than that.  3G seems to work fine; however, WiFi does not.  I turn the WiFi on, and it scans for networks.  After a few seconds, the WiFi turns itself off.  Anybody else have this issue?

Nevermind - I found my problem.  However, I do also see the 3G icon pop up from time to time as mentioned on the original post.

No 3G/WIFI issues here on my Wife's Captivate after doing the upgrade.  The 3G icon goes away once the captivate detects the wifi signal in the house.

What was your resolution?  I can't seem to get my wifi functioning at all.

Reboot of the Uverse router seemed to do the trick.

I am having the same problem after updating my SGH-i897 Captivate from FROYO (2.2) to GINGERBREAD (2.3.5). What I observe is that when both icons are visible on the display (WiFi & 3G), it is no longer possible to access the Internet. I will see some activity on the 3G icon (green download arrow is active) but it is not possible to connect to the Internet and use the browser.

The only work around that I have found so far is to go to the Main Menu and choose Settings -> Wireless and network -> Mobile networks -> Use packet data and then "uncheck" Use packet data, and then "check" Use packet Data. So far, this has corrected the problem 100% of the time, causing the 3G icon to drop out and the WiFi icon to be the only icon on the screen, after which connectivity returns and I can browse the network. Unfortunately, after a period of time (phone returns to and from idle mode several times), the problem returns.

Anybody know if there is a permanent fix for this problem?

You might try using a static IP on your phone. The Wi-fi settings default to DHCP, which works fine in most cases, but in order to get my Captivate and my daughter's Acer Iconia tablet to work, I had to assign a Static IP address. Later, I switched my phone back to DHCP, but it retained the same address I had assigned to it. But the bottom line is that both devices connect flawlessly to the wi-fi network.

I, along with many other people, are looking for why our WiFi is turning off by itself.

RESOLVED (for me at least)

I'd been having the same problem after upgrading to 2.3 -  3G open along side WiFi, sometimes streaming data (yellow green), and often kicking me off WiFi and returning to "obtaining IP" error.

The SOLUTION was clearing the WEB BROWSER data.  (phone SETTINGS, Applications, Manage Applications, All Tab, Browser, and choosing "Clear Data").

This immediately stopped the problem, and so far looks good.  I was so frustrated with this problem, and considered moving back to 2.2 or 2.1.  I found this solution somewhere else on lougle and had to post when it worked.
