AT&T Tilt 2 Official ROM Update Coming

I gotta tell ya, I'm really starting to hate this phone. I'd so love to have my Epix back. Even with all it's bugs, it was better phone than this one. This thing is slow, the screen doesn't paint correctly 1/4 of the time it seems, while texting, the input line only shows up by about 1/3 of a line. It's kind of a piece if you ask me.

If they come out with an official ROM, I may give it a try, but I'm totally not liking this phone. Ugh!

So, any word yet on when the new ROM hits the streets? I haven't bothered with the leaked version because I don't really feel like flashing the phone twice, and I'd like to put the final product on instead.

I love this new ROM, its way better than the original Rom. All you guys do is complain and criticize everytime. Yes the new rom need some work before release, i am disappointed with it compare to the original rom.

So I installed the new ROM now it says that it needs a newer Framework to run some programs.  Where can I get that?

Officially released today:

ATT and HTC released an official upgrade ROM for the Tilt 2. If you are reading this post it is more than likely that you are already on a custom ROM that is probably much better than this “upgrade” ROM. However, here are some of the changes in the new ROM and here is the download link (scroll down till you see “HTC TILT 2 (AT&T) ROM UPDATE 2.10.502.4 | 08.30.2010“)

What’s included:

• HTC Sense replaces TouchFlo 3D
• Ability to Format the SD Card directly in the device
• Inconsistent Caller ID function Hotfix
• TILT 2 Freezes in SMS application Hotfix
• Phantom SMS/MMS Count Hotfix
• Overall improvement in the devices stability/operation

Remember to backup your phone before you install this upgrade.

Kind of upset that they didn't fix the issue with the signal bar not showing a 3rd bar and just jumping from 2 to 4.....but as long as i can overlook that issue it is great.

I installed all three cabs but it didn't disable the htc messaging at all.  when I tried to uninstall only for the wm messaging was available but the zenyee cab was not on the list to uninstall?  Anyone have an idea of whats happened?

Does anyone know if there are any differences between this official ROM and the same ROM which was leaked previously?  In other words, did they fix anything after we beta tested it for them?

The HTC instructions say to check your current ROM version before updating.  If it's not 2.10.502.4 then you should install the update.  I had put the "leaked" version on a few weeks ago, and it reports it is 2.10.502.4.  Should I even bother to re-flash?

I think I've got an answer to my own question.  I did a file compare of the "leaked" ROM to the "Official" ROM, and they are identical.

Ok I downloaded the the leaked ROM (2.10.502.4) a while back, but the messaging client sucked and was VERY slow and buggy.  I noticed you listed a hotfix for the messaging client.  Is this something that was included in the leaked ROM, or can I install just the hotfix ?

For those who are in the same predicament as me (as to whether or not indulge in the new TILT 2 ROM), I thought I will do this post.

I have installed the new ROM and all other applications I was using earlier + configured all my email accounts.  so after using it for 4 days, here is my take. 

• Compared to the original stock ROM this one is really fast.  (I did remove the crapware using crud scraper)
• I never enabled the TOuch flo 3D on the original ROM as it used up lot of memory and made the phone to really SLOW DOWN.  But I found that I am quite contempt to run Sense UI.  It doesn't slow the phone down as much and I still run all the applications as I originally did.
• I did try out Cookie's home tab, but this one really slowed the phone down.  I have since uninstalled this and am just using the original HTC Sense. 
• The applications do launch faster than it did on the old ROM
• The GPS locks are fast if not better than what is was on the old ROM
• The old ROM showed 5 signal bars.  This one only shows 4.  The locations where it used to show 5 bars, now toggle between 2 and 4.  This one never shows 3 bars.  Even though it shows like the signal as only 2 bars, the call quality is the same.  No issues with dropped calls or bad internet speed, etc.

Overall, in my experience, if you were using the old Stock ROM, this one is good to get. 

It makes the phone zippy even when you have Sense.  Same or better network/GPS signals. 

Better music playback.

No, I have not.  As far as I can tell, it’s not in there?

Another issue has risen.  Backlight duration on battery power.  The default is 10 seconds, but this is not long enough for me.  I have discovered a couple of different ways to access this setting and change the duration of background lighting while on battery power.  The trouble is that my device consistently defaults back to 10 seconds every time it hibernates.  This is annoying, especially if I try to make a call while driving at night.

I have gotten around all of the other issues I had with this ROM.  These were mostly only differences and this thread has been a big help.  I now like this ROM much better, but am still anxious to see WP7.

Anyone find a way to add more than just 9 app shorts cuts? As in from the main screen and flipping the clock up...seems pointless. I use way more than just 9 apps. LOL...I have been forced to use the "Start Menu" for the others.

Here’s a link to a page @ XDA which contains some very valuable tweaks.  There’s a cab which takes the shortcuts from 9 to 16.  I use it.  It works great.

Remember you can get a 17th by reassigning your PTT button.  I have reassigned mine to open a task manager I installed.  Dutty’s I believe – also available at this link.

I installed the new ROM yesterday on my phone, and, while I like the new Sense software, I think this thing is almost unusable. Problems listed:

1. the Services.exe process is running very high and I think that's what's draining my battery very quickly. It went from 100% to 70% in about 3 hours.

2. The messaging clients sucks. It's so slow it's not even funny. Part of the reason for this may be that it looks like it's loading all the messages in a thread where the old client would only load around 10 or so then then there'd be a link to show "older" messages. This was the pattern for all the messages in the thread so it wouldn't have to load very many messages at a time.

3. Synchronizing takes a very long time and calendar appointments don't show up on my phone.

4. Errors occur and I see message asking me to send the error to Microsoft or whomever.

5. I cannot find a way to get the task manager to show up in the upper right corner like it used to. And, I installed a .cab for the HTC task manager.

6. I installed a file explorer extension and it caused errors so I removed it.

While I like the new Sense software, overall I don't like this ROM. I'm wondering now if I need to go back to the old ROM of if I just need to tweak with it for a while to make it work right.

The battery issue is a big one though.

When I click on your direct link (which is a link to the new ROM), it allows selecting phones but doesn't show the Tilt2. It shows the touch 2. Is that the same device?
