Atrix 2 screen doesn't turn on after being idle [ Edited ]

On my second handset exchange from the At&t warranty department on the Atrix 2.  Seems the last two Atrix phones I have had the screen will not turn back on after the phone has been sitting idle once it goes into power save mode or hibernation.  I know everyone even including Motorola wants to blame the APPS, but considering a test of putting the same three apps on the Atrix2 and the Samsung Galaxy S 2  (the Samsung has no issues of a black screen).  (The Apps were Chase, Delta Airlines, and BOA).

Motorola is in total denial on the issue wants to know what environment the phone is being used in?? (odd considering the Samsung Galaxy S 2 has no issue with same Apps).

Hopefully handset three works with out the black screen issue!

I have had mine for a month. Atrix 2 has frozen the way you describe (all inputs non responsive) 3 times forcing a battery removal/reinstall to restart the phone.

Good know, and hear.  I had a feeling that they are other people with this phone who have had similar issues, but have yet to post it. After being on handset 3 which I got last night from warranty exchange I knew I wasn't the only one.

Call the ATT warranty phone nubmber, and provided you haven't dropped any liquid on the handset or damaged it, ATT will send you another Atrix 2.

Hopefully the replacement handset works with out any issues!

once upon a time, my wife's blackberry was making a racket.  she said it turns off automatically at night, and back on in the morning.  i checked my atrix 2, but i could find no such option.  so i looked for an app (the greatest thing about smartphones, there's an app for everything). i found an app that would automatically turn the phone off and on.  but i read a number of complaints about, once the phone turned off, it wouldn't turn back on again.  so i decided the manual approach to be more prudent.

now, you might say another phone has no such problem with the same apps, but smartphones are exactly like pc's.  you might have 10 pc's exactly the same, but there's a zillion processes running in the background, and any one of them can arbitrarily not work with an app.  so i would suggest using the phone a couple of days without any apps, then add them in one at a time, trying them each for a few days.  you might find the bad actor, and eventually find an alternative app that does the same thing, and works just fine.  and if you're expecting every app to work with every phone, perhaps a smartphone isn't for you.

After I was switched over to Samsung from the Atrix 2 with all the issues of the screen. I had the issue of one app crashing was able to figure out which one and removed it.  The problem with Atrix 2 is the black screen and no one knows what is causing it. Everything pointed to the Yahoo Andriod app but it turned out not to be the cause, and then a few people are pointing to a bad batch Atrix 2 that ATT seems to have on hand.  I am not on the Atrix 2 any longer, but I have to agree with the on going Motorola forum that there is a software issue on the Atrix 2 handsets which are having the blackscreen issues.

I got this phone 2 days ago and it has been having this problem ever since I first turned it on.  Even let the battery completely drain as recommended.  So I will attest that it is not an app causing the problem but lies within the phone itself.  Plan on returning the phone ASAP and am not convinced I will get for another.

I have the same issue with my atrix 2. I have had mine for about a month now, and had to hard reset (pull battery and reinsert) about 10 times now. I guess I will return this phone and get another brand other than motorola. It looks like there are issues with this model, and it does not involve the apps.

Your best bet is to get the a different Andriod phone because every exchanged Atrix 2 will have the same issue at some point.

 Motrola is dening anything wrong with the phone.

Just to add to the pile:  Atrix 2  latest build (5.5.1-175EDMR1.25) which was loaded to the phone two days ago or so.

This morning the phone would not turn on at all.  I plugged in the charger and still the phone did not turn on.  I hit google and entered "Atrix 2 won't turn on" and got 5 million hits (not all relevant bit still).  Someone had posted the battery romoval thing and that has worked but should not be necessary.  And getting past the OtterBox to the battery is not something that should be done before a good cup of coffee!

Once the phone turned on, the charging state said 20% and so its quite possible the phone was completely discharged.  Still, I would expect that the appropriate response upon plugging it in would be some kind of charging indicator, but at initial plugin there was no indication and the phone did not respond to the on/off button.

I confess I am new to "smart" phones and to Android in particular (my son has an iPhone 4G).  As an engineer, I am astounded at the truly useful things in the market place and I look forward to someday adding a few tools of my own.  But, I will say I NEVER had any issues with my old Motorola V3xx RAZR and so far this is the second or third major issue I've had in a month (the first problem seemed to have been related to the towers in my area which ATT seems to have stablized - perhaps its unfair to hitch this one to the Atrix 2).  The second seems to have been cured when I downloaded a tool called "On call end".

I have no games but I do have a number of calculators and reference tools loaded to the phone.  Hmm, I have also been looking at a few navigational programs in the last couple of days.  Maybe there is something to the phone shutoff issue there?

It's July and I can verify this is still an issue.
I own 2x Atrix 2's and this happens to both of them. I probably use and charge mine 3x more than my wife and it probably happens to me 3x more often. This has NEVER happened with low battery, and has happened to me on the charger twice. It happens to one of our phones once a month on average.

To determine if it's the apps, all we would have to do is all run App Dragon, copy to the clipboard and paste here. Once 20 people did that, we could look at the apps we all have in common...I guarantee they would only be Android-required apps.

Even if it is the apps, they are still selling a phone which indefinitely goes black when you install apps on it. 

Does this sound like a phone anyone would want to buy if they knew about it, or does it sound like something that should be investigated and repaired by Motorola in order to put out a fully functional product?
