Can't hear caller through phone. Help?

I have had the phone for about 2 weeks, is a sgh-i777, android version 4.0.3. I can hear the other caller when I use speakerphone or headphones, but not through the actual phone, the other person can also hear me. Any help, or better yet solutions, would be appreciated.

If you call someone and while the person is talking, turn up the volume using the volume control on the side of the phone. Does that help.
