Cut, Copy, Paste changes in ICS 4.0.3

It looks like there were changes made in cut, copy, and paste functionality. It's not as obvious to use as 2.3.x! Before I could easily call up a small box above my text where I could choose cut, copy, paste. Now sometimes I can get it, sometimes a cut, copy, paste bar appears at the TOP of the screen, and other times I get a drop-down menu that says, "Select an action", where my choices are "copy", "forward", and "delete". I don't think I'm describing it well, but previously I didn't have to think so hard about what I was trying to do! Now it seems I have to use "trial and error" when I need these features.

I'll add that at one point playing around with 4.0.3, I found a way to bring up about a dozen of my previously "clipped" items and choose among them. Now I can't find that again....
