I was wondering does staying on 4G consume more battery than just leaving it on 3G?
I was wondering because I was using my GPS on 4G which is super fast but my battery seemed to have plummeted down 15%... Now I may not have been paying attention to what it was before I used my GPS but it seemed to have dropped quick... I checked settings and battery and it says the "Android System" is consuming the most battery and I am thinking it'd the 4G.
Does 4G consume a lot more battery that 3G? And how do u turn 4G off?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S3

Yes. I would think that 4G uses more power than 3G. I've read that the processor runs at a slow clock rate during idle, and the processor shifts to higher clock rates on demand, like 4G with GPS running. I don't mean that the GPS is 4G but that the 4G cellular data and GPS (GPS is not G rated) data are used for recalculating.

Ahh that makes sense...I wish there was a way to allow the phone to only use 3G

When you say "4G" - do you mean "faux-G" (HSPA+) or LTE? (neither meet the original ITU definition of 4G before the carriers whined and had the bar lowered significantly)
If LTE - yes, LTE is notorious for being a battery hog, just like UMTS/HSPA was in its early days before the technology matured. I would not expect to see acceptable battery life from LTE devices for another year or so, if it's consistent with the same timeline UMTS needed to mature.
If HSPA+ - No, it's just a slightly enhanced UMTS mode that should be equal to base UMTS in terms of power efficiency.
