I couldn't find a post on this forum for a discussion of the recent upgrades Microsoft did to the Hotmail servers beginning in mid-May and continued through mid-June breaking phones of various brands, Operating systems, and carriers. I wanted to make AT&T aware of this problem. Apparently, in my case, the latest AT&T sanctioned release of Android OS is 2.3.6 which no longer works with Hotmail corporate sync.
For those of you who have Android phones you know this was the only good way to keep your calender, contact, and email synced with Microsoft Outlook. Apparently Microsoft has no intention of making an effort to make the new upgrades backwards compatible except for their older Windows phones.
AT&T - apparently Android Ice Cream Sandwich is compatible. Any idea when it will be pushed?
The official link to Microsoft's answer is:
Why is Hotmail not syncing correctly on my mobile device?
Another community started thread that provides a scope of the problem is:
Hotmail Sync (EAS) Broken on Mobile Devices
Android users can download a Hotmail app from Microsoft + Seven that will restore syncing contacts and calender but will only give you email in the app and it is clunky to say the least.
One carrier technician posting on this and other threads estimated that 40% of the smart phones had been affected by this debacle!
