Epic fail.
While the I9100 ICS release (XXLPQ) wasn't too hot, it wasn't the epic disaster that all of AT&T's updates seem to be.
This is why I don't think I will ever again purchase a phone from AT&T - They always mess around with each update, and universally, they make things SIGNIFICANTLY worse. UCKH7 for the I777 had bugs (AP Mobile widget eats data) not present in any I9100 release. UCKK6 had bugs present in only one I9100 release (XWKK5) that were fixed within weeks by Samsung (severe power management regressions), AND the bugs were more severe in UCKK6. On top of that, AT&T users didn't see any update, not even a bugfix like I9100 users saw, for 7-8 months. Finally, UCLE5 is a steaming pile of poo too based on all reports here - piles of power management regressions, crashes, and a small chance of permanent damage to the phone's storage if you do a factory reset. (Maybe 1% or so - it's hard to tell - it happens rarely but it has happened to some people, I've seen four reports of it in the past week spread across a few different Samsung devices. I9100 ICS releases prior to this month were immune to this damage, as were all Gingerbread releases.)

My advice....wait for the next update becasue this one will mess with your phone.
so far i see more negative things about the update than anything else. For me, I cannot do screen captures GB or ICS style, do not have the lock screen that allows to take pictures, facebook contacts cannot link to phone contacts to show pictures even in third party dialer/contacts apps, I cannot change the brightness of the screen by scrolling my finger through the top. Is there a way to go back Ginger Bread?

Its weird that you guys are having all these issues. Mine is running fine except sometimes it will start lagging so i just restart it and it works fine.
My GPS shows correct location and even correct directions, I am able to take screen shots by slidding the side of my hand from one side of the screen to the other or by using the spen.
If I go to disable auto adjust of the screen brighness then I can slide my finger on the top of the screen to adjust, I just leave mine on auto.
I dont pay for the tethering plan so I dont know about that sorry...

My Galaxy note (att version) worked beautifully until I upgraded to ICS last week. I used Klies on my Mac to upgrade. My phone now shows under Settings > About Phone > Android Version 4.04
Now my phone is packed with problems. It's so bad, my phone is almost worthless now.
~ Lag time: The phone almost always / frequently lags behind. Oftentimes it lags behind me so badly that I can't even answer a phone call on time, or take a photo before the opportunity passes.
Frequently my phone lags so bad, it's a couple of minutes before it catches up with me and allows me to input commands.
~ Bluetooth - totally crapped out now.
Used to connect all day long to my BOSE headset and now it can't be discovered at all.
Used to connect to my Toyota Tundra in car system - now it can only rarely connect - but usually not.
~ Battery Life: Used to last a day and a half, now it lasts maybe half a day.
~ Wifi connectivity - wifi range has diminished by at least 50 %. I used to be able to connect to wifi with my Note all throughout my (small) house. Now I have to be very close to the wifi router. This also contributes to battery loss as it's forever reconnecting/disconnecting.
~ Tethering - (portable hotspot) is now completely non-functioning. I can not tether wirelessly anymore. When I attempt to start it, I get a blank screen for about 30 seconds and then finally I get the same error mesage others here have already listed: "Unfortunately, Settings has stopped."
~ Call disconnects (not the usual call drops that are normal on AT&T) frequently. In the past week I have apologized to at least 6 or 7 people that I disconnected from during the call. Then the phone "lags" and I can't regain control of it for a few minutes in order to call the person back...
AT&T and Samsung please address these issues here and provide solutions. I have a state of the art phone (that I used to love) that has been rendered virtually useless by this ICS upgrade.
![]()
Note:
I restart my Note at least once per day to try to minimize the "lag" effect. I don't think re-starting helps at all, but I do it anyway.
My phone has rebooted itself (without warning) about once per day since the upgrade.

OK a follow up to my previous post earlier today.
After some deliberation I decided to factory reset my phone.
I first backed it up to my phone (Settings > Backup and reset) to my google account and then hit the Factory data Reset button ( (Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset).
Long story short - All is now good in the world again ![]()
I'm still in the slow process of getting things set up again the way I like them, but because I backed up to my google account, everything I had 600 photos, 4 GB of music, contacts, email, calendar (I use gmail email and calendar) - things are quite easy.
~ Bluetooth is working
~ Tethering / Hotspot is working
~ No Lag
As for call disconnects and wifi range, it's too soon to tell but I'm hopeful that these problems too have dissappeared. They seem like they have.
So perhaps I got a bad file or an incomplete upgrade when I first did it, and now with the reset, things got repaired / or files got replaced with complete or non-corrupt versions?
Hope this report helps some one else.

I'm still on GB but want to get ICS. The bug reports I keep reading are putting me off considering that my phone with GB works fine. Should I risk it and get ICS? It seems like many are able to resolve the ICS problems after doing a complete factory reset.

That's totally up to you. I had to do a hardware factory data reset because I couldn't get to the settings menu on my phone after the update. The phone worked fine under GB for me, but it was kind of aggravating to have one device on GB while the rest of my devices were on ICS. I was used to ICS and wanted consistency, which I don't have now because now I have JB on some devices. : ) First world problems!

Were you able to solve all the post-update ICS problems after factory resetting your phone? Did everything work as well as when you were on GB? Like battery life, signal strength, screen brightness, etc?

Good question. I'll have to test extensively to give you a good answer. The problem is that I use multiple devices and I can't remember which devices have which problems accurately.
The immediate problems that I had after the update were the phone freezing and getting stuck in the boot-up process. Those were definitely fixed by the factory reset. The Mobile Hotspot not working was fixed by a second reset.
I think that I was having screen brightness issues after the reset, where the screen flickered as though I had it set to auto-brightness when I didn't. I didn't notice that problem this weekend though, so it may have cleared up with time or I could be thinking of another device.
The other problem that I am having may be with the particular website that I browse most often on the phone. The screen doesn't register my touches to activate different links within the website. I will have to try different websites to see if I'm having the same problem all around. The particular website that I am referring to gives me different problems on different devices, so I'm not ready to blame the ICS update for this problem yet.
Battery life is the same or slightly better than with GB. I'm unsure of signal strength-I'll have to test this to see if it's good now. Honestly I don't know what it was with GB, because I spent a lot of that time with a different SIM card in the phone.
I'll use this device for my various tasks tonight and follow-up with you to let you know my results. Overall, I don't regret the update to ICS. It just took two resets to get everything to work properly again.

My signal strength seems fine. I'm less than a mile away from the closest tower, so my signal should be strong anyway.

I attempted to update my AT&T Galaxy Note to ICS on July 22, 2012 using Kies. It was totally stock GB before the update. The update initally appeared to go successfully as the little green android character appeared on my phone.
I think all or some portion of ICS was installed on my phone during the update process, but can't tell for sure because I can't access the "About Phone" page.
However, immediately after completion, the Kies website indicated that the update was unsuccessful and asked me if I wanted to do an emergency firmware recovery. So, naturally, I clicked on the button with the recovery code already populated and it began. It failed once. So, I tried again... and, again. Finally, I gave up when the emergency recovery would not complete.
The phone began to boot loop immediately after this process. I've been following Entropy512's thread on XDA (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1
I can still turn on the phone (and weirdly, still make phone calls between boot loops), but nothing else works as before. I've seen some people say that they've done a factory reset and that worked, but I've also read that doing that may hard brick the phone. I don't think I can do it anyway because I can't tap the factory reset link.
Any ideas? Just look for my warranty?

The first reset that I did was a hardware factory data reset, because my phone was stuck in the boot process, as well. But if it will brick your phone, I don't want to advise you to do it.
The instructions are here under Hard Reset Using Buttons. However, you have to change the instructions in step four from "Press the Home button..." to Press the Power button.

I contemplated doing that, but was only able to get into download mode. And, then, after I started reading that thread on XDA, I decided to wait until I heard a little more from users before attempting that data reset again. My phone may already be shot, but no sense risking further damage.
