I have 1 issue right now. Red box flashes on edges of screen when switching between programs or pressing home button after opening several apps.
I have checked to make sure that "Flash Screen" under developer options is unchecked and it is.

I pay for the Tethering plan and it worked just fine before. Now when I run it in ICS, screen turns black and about 30 sedonds later, it says "unfortunately, settings has stopped." ARrrghhh!!!
I need to be able to tether asap!!

sorry, perhaps I should clarify. Before I was still on Gingerbread. In ICS, Tethering doesn't seem to work. Could a master reset still really fix it?

I understood you were using ICS. Doing a factory Reset will rebuild the profile so to speak. The first time the system might have "miss placed" a file or somthing just didn't go right when the update put all your files back. That was the issue with the update with the S2. There have been a few people who had major issues with that update but after a "factory reset" and reinstalling their apps everything worked.
Keep in mind this is just a guess and please back up ALL your files (pictures, music, notes you will lose them doing this. I found it was much esier mounting the device and just cuting and pasting all the files to my desk top and then putting them back when I was done.

Thanks! It worked and now I can tether again. However, for whatever extremely frustrating reason I can't RESTORE my phone. I did a full backup (close to 950MB file) and right at 99%, the thing crashes. I've tried this 5-6 times.
Then went and did another master reset. Tried a few more times.
I seriously want to throw my phone out the window and just get an iPhone or something. This shouldn't be this difficult and shouldn't take this many hours of my life.

Good thing is if you go to google.com and go to the play store and log in you can go to "my library" i think its called and you should find all the apps you downloaded there

Um what is the difference again from Gingerbread to ICS? Dare I ask when Jelly Bean will be available?

One huge difference for me is that NFC is enabled now. You can also now dismiss notifications individually, instead of on an all or nothing basis. This had been driving me crazy since all of my other devices run Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich, and I had gotten used to dismissing notifications one-by-one.. If you enable the Wi-fi hotspot, the device now gives you a password, instead of you having to create your own.
Other differences that could have been accomplished with apps in the past, but are now part of the stock OS are the ability to track cellular data use and the ability to display the battery percentage in the notification bar.
There are many more, but these are the ones that I use the most and what come to the top of my head.

I upgraded to Ice Cream Sandwich on my i717 via Kies. Now the GPS cannot get a lock. I tried a factory reset with no luck. GPS was great on Gingerbread. This Note is going back to AT&T and a new one with Gingerbread loaded is on the way. If GPS is important to you DO NOT UPDATE to 4.0.4 unless and UNTIL AT&T/Samsung fixes it.

Weird Mine works fine. I just tested it with the GPS status App that I use to report my location to the NWS when reporting storms.

Are you using a note or the International S2? This post shows you are using the later.
If this post was to dagobro (sp?), I noticed that his device came up the same as mine, which is the AT&T Galaxy Note, not the international Galaxy S II.

I know. Whatever it is that reads devices on this forum doesn't always get it right. I know that if I post from my Galaxy Nexus, it comes up with something weird, like Generic Android Device or something.

I DID a factory reset. No change. I called AT&T and have a Gingerbread loaded replacement on the way. FRUSTRATING.

Sounds like an Issue ATT created when blocking that feature to people who dont paying extra for it, and in fact blocking the people that are actully paying for it too..

Do you get this message as soon as you tap Tethering and portable hotspot? Did you have your USB plugged in already? I don't tether, but I was able to set up the portable hotspot successfully.

After tapping "Tethering and portable hotspot" .. it goes 30 seconds.. (or so) and gives you the error
As for plugged in via USB.. NO.. I was doing it like I usually do.. phone sits on desk.. and does it via wireless.. I'll try USB
"Two Minutes Later"
Same issue when plugged in via USB

OK. I just wanted to understand what you were already doing.
I don't get that error message doing the same thing that you were doing the first time. However, even though the Wi-fi hotspot seems to initialize with no problems, my SGS III and my co-workers's BlackBerry won't connect to it. We both can see the Galaxy Note on our list of available Wi-fi networks, but our connections fail. My coworker gets an error message on his BlackBerry, while nothing happens on my SGS III.

I had to do the painful factory data reset, but my Wi-fi hotspot works now.
I was still trying to set up my phone after the factory reset after the ICS update. Oh well...

I upgraded my SGH-i717 Note to ICS and now GPS lock is HORRIBLY INCONSISTENT. What I've found so far:
- GPS will sometimes never lock, and always have 0-1 satellites in use, even after 30 minutes
- Restarting the Note always allows me to lock on again
- Clearing the AGPS cache will sometimes allow a lock again
- Sometime within a day of being able to get a GPS lock, the GPS will forever fail to lock
On Gingerbread, GPS is perfect, so this MUST be a software/driver issue that arose with the upgrade. Some folks at XDA Forums suggest it's the LF5 or LF6 modem.
This defect is very frustrating, as I use the GPS almost every day, and can't afford to play roulette or wait for my phone to restart each time I need it.

This has happened on facebook, Google maps, Dark Legends (but oddly not star legends by the same company) google+ , z-devicetester, photobucket and more.
Also the gps is kinda crappy now. Not broken like that other poster... just insanely slow to update position. I can drive by 3 blocks sometimes before it notices i took a turn. Same route ive taken before to test my gps devices and on ginger bread it was fine. (I live in a city with a lot of 1 way streets. Google maps so far is the best at NOT trying to send me down them. You want to test accuracy drive in Lowell Ma where its all 1 ways, or Boston where the streets are redirected daily.)
This is not the first time an AT&T version of an update ruined a phone for me. At least i can still use the phone. A gingerbread update killed the Atrix1 for many. (Look up at&t atrix wifi error reset. Everyone passes the buck on the blame for that.)
