Check your settings under call settings / call forwarding.

thanks -- I am guessing that changing the delay in call forwarding when not answered should help

I don't think that will have any effect on number of rings you are looking for.
Number of rings is not a phone setting, but a setting on AT&T system side. Not sure if they can change it, but you can call and ask them (611 on your AT&T phone).

I tried the 611 but the 30 second delay is the longest that can be set and they have no further tricks other than to suggest that some ring tones do not start immediately effectively shortening the time available, but with no hints as to how to determine which ones those would be.
