I just switched from t-mobile to at&t today. I had a problem free G2X I loved it. My G2X had 2.3.3 on it and I got the thrill because it got great reviews and was packed with features, it also said it was upgradeable to 2.3.3 on LG's web site. But I can't seem to find any info about weather it has or will be released. The battery life, wi-fi and many other things are much better with 2.3.3. Any help or info would be great.

I'm also waiting for official word on when the update will be released. This phone is plagued with poor battery life, random reboots, and laggy performance. I was told when I purchased the phone that AT&T promised the update inside of 30 days from release (which would be in two days), but not a single sign of it actually happening. Without a timeline on when it's going to be released, I am seriously considering returning it since I'm inside my 30 day return period. However, if they released a timeline, I would reconsider (as will many others). This device should have launched with Gingerbread.
@AT&T, any word on that timeline?
Thanks in advance.

I can't say that I necessarily believed him, but he said it came right from the AT&T trainer. I've been let down by AT&T quite a few times, and it appears that I'm probably going to be once again if they can't answer my question. I don't think a timeline is too much to ask.

And timeline get pushed back all the time! When my curent phone was released most of the blog sites were saying summer for the Gingerbread update for it. My carrier began the update at the end of September (fall) and now it has been pulled for a bug in the update that break a notification. I am eager to get Gingerbread on my phone, but the phone works well without it so they can take all the time they need to get it right.

I understand my phone seems to work great to. but come on gingerbread has been out for what, a year. icecream sandwitch comes out soon. why are we still getting these so called top of the line phones with froyo? And there is no excuse for not giving consumers any info on the US release considering most European careers and 2 US have apparently got there update already. i want my better battery life better wi-fi and all the other tweaks. It's like people still using vista instead of windows 8. They might look the. same but windows 8 is way better. oh well i turn 37 tomorrow maybe by the time I'm 38 ill get my gingerbread.
Carrier changes to the phone namely bloatware. International phones don't have the same issue.

Spoke to a store rep today because my wife is having issues with her phone. She asked them if there would be a OS up date to 2.3.4 gingerbread. And they told her that the updates started on oct 5 and would take about 2 weeks for all the android phones to get updated. So according to what we were told all android phone including the Thrill should get an OTA update to 2.3.4 some time within the next week. I personally doubt it but we will see wont we.

Miguel: Hello Guest. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A.! How may I provide you with excellent service today? Guest: i have the thrill and was wondering when gingerbread would be releasde for it Miguel: I would be glad to tell, unfortunately there is no release date yet Guest: ok at&t said it wasnt going to get GB at all is that true Miguel: We do not have any information regarding their policies, I'm sorry Miguel: The phone is upgradeable to 2.3, as per the hardware request they requested, and informed that the Add would be released in due time Guest: they told me that LG is responsable for any os updates and to contact you and yoy have no answer Guest: i feel like im being run in circles by the two companies Miguel: I'm sorry you feel that way, we can only provide the information they have given us. Guest: ok i get it... companies are not big on customer service theese days. have a good day
this is a copy of my live chat with LG today. so to sum it up for everyone LG blames AT&T, and from my conversation with AT&T they blame LG. also some {please keep it courteous} at AT&T told me today that the thrill will not get GB at all. at this point im so confused i just want a straight answer. i juess ill just return the phone and get something different. so much for AT&T's commitment to GB on all phones.

I have an LG Thrill 4G. I love the phone, I'd like the Gingerbread, or whatever other OS upgrade that is suppose to be available. I'm finding Android support through AT&T is severely lacking to non-existant.
Of late, in just the last two days, my phone is taking on a new problem; the WIFI continuously is turning on & off, it doesn't matter what I select. It doesn't matter what I do. As soon as the WIFI connects, it shuts off. My wife has the same phone & hers is working perfectly.
Has anyone else run into a problem such as this?

It's insane that Android 4.0 is shipping on a Verizon phone & AT&T won't even tell us whether we'll get 2.3.
I have two P925s...& just might jump ship, unless AT&T shows signs that they're listening & will address this soon.

I just purchased a LG Thrill and am not sure if I like it or not. Seeing that it is running an out of date OS and no one seems to know when or even if there will be an update is unacceptable as far as I am concerned. I plan to go to an AT&T store in Reno to see if anyone has an answer and that will determine what steps I take next. My past experience with AT&T customer support has varied from good to ignorant. Very much depends on the person one talks to it seems. If I don't sense an improvement I will be looking for another carrier when our contract is up.

as far as when the GB update will come out, who knows. hopefully soon like in the next 4 weeks.my issue is a top spec phone with a old outdated OS. at this point hang tight GB will come. i personally am tired of complaining it won't help it come any faster.
How bad do you want Gingerbread? It's been available on XDA for a while now, but the developers are still ironing out the device drivers. Read this thread when you get a chance. The development isn't steam rolling along like the Samsungs are, but I skimmed through it and they've made some progress.
Same caution as what you will read on the other thread, unofficial updates to your phone will void your warranty. That in mind, GB is already available for whomever wants it bad enough.

Well, ATT, I'm sorry, but if you can't honor your "all android phones get GB by 2012" promise, then I guess I'll just have to root my phone, get the XDA GB, and not pay for anymore apps, because this is absurd.

I just spoke with LG via their chat applet. Below is the transcript....Oddly enough it was Miquel... the same guy someone else spoke to earlier in this thread...unless they all call themselves that! ![]()
Miguel: Hello Guest. Welcome to LG Electronics U.S.A. Support only. How may I provide you with excellent service today? Guest: hi Miguel: Hi Guest: I (like many others) am hoping you can shed some light on a question about the Thrill and a Gingerbread update. Do you have any info on a release date for this? When I purchased this on the first day it was released, I was told by both and LG rep and ATT that the update was coming in the next couple of months...it's been well over that Guest: please tell me you have some info
Miguel: I'm really sorry but there is no release date for that update yet. Guest: Has it been changed then? Because like I said both LG and ATT stated it was coming soon. I almost feel like going back and claiming false advertising...as I was told something by both companies that they are failing to deliver on. I feel duped Guest: Poor way to handle this by both IMO Miguel: Yes, ATT released information of the future release for the update soon, unfortunately they have not provided any date Guest: So who does the update actually come from? How will I get it when it is made available? Through the LG site, through the update option in the OS or on ATT site? Miguel: The update actually comes from Android, in conjunction with ATT, as they are the ones in charge of the software on the phone. Miguel: The update may be performed over the air, or through a link on ATT website, or through an update tool we have on our website Guest: When you say it may be performed from those 3 places does that mean that once it is available it can be accessed through all 3? Or do you mean it will be available from one of those 3 Miguel: No, the carrier would decide which one would be used Guest: hmmm, okay. And I am guess you don't have that information correct? I mean it would be nice to even know where to look and keep updated Miguel: Don't worry, the carrier will let you know in due time Guest: So let me try to understand the update process. The update does NOT come from LG. The update obviously starts with Android, which has been out for about a year. Then ATT gets thier hands on it to tweak or add what they want. Where does LG come into it? In the initial testing stage? Just trying to understand how that works. Guest: Wonder who I should be angry at for taking so long...hahaha Miguel: LG just verifies if the software works with the device, as you mentioned, initial testing Guest: Gotchya... Thanks for your time Miguel. Have a good day!

They no longer sell this phone in the stores. When it first came out it was $99. It now sells for $49 on their web site.

I called AT&T for an issue. While I was on the phone I asked when the GB update would be coming out. He couldn't find an answer so his manager told him to transfer me to LG. He did. The LG rep told me that Gingerbread will not be pushed out to the Thrill/P925 because it will not handle the 3D portion of the phone. He said Ice Cream "should" be able to handle it when it comes out.
I'm going back to the store where I bought the phone and return it.

That is absolutely not true that the Gingerbread OS cant handle the 3D hardware. The Optimus 3D, the exact same phone for outside of the US sales, is already running on the officially released Gingerbread OS. Only difference is the Optimus 3D uses a different baseband than the Thrill.

Acetylene80, my comment was just repeating what the reps at LG told me, both times I called. I had called the next day to confirm what I had been told the day before. If that is not true then the script they are reading from is false. You can always call that number yourself and tell them they are lying.
I did go back to the store where I bought the Thrill. I spoke with the manager and explained to him that I had bought the phone because their website said the phone was upgradeable to 2.3 and when I came into the store the salesperson confirmed that. But now AT&T’s website doesn’t list it as upgradeable, (it doesn’t even say what version of Android it is running), and my being told by 2 different reps at LG that they were not going to push out the GB update, I asked him to put me back to upgrade status on my account. He went into the back and spoke with customer service. When he came back out I was back at upgrade status.
Before the Thrill I had a Windows 6.5 phone so I bought the HTC Titan running Windows 7.5 and am completely happy with it.
I will miss the 3D camera so I will occasionally turn the Thrill back on and see if an OS update gets pushed down…

I talked with LG today, they said that the upgrade has not even been started yet, also spoke with AT&T and they are saying that its not even a guarantee that the phone will ever recive an update. I asked the rep if I could get an upgrade so icould get a phone that would get updates since it was advertised that the thrill would get gingerbread soon and they were unwilling to help not sure if I will stay with AT&T very much longer with that kind of service.
