Whenever there is a text, e-mail or a voice mail my phone makes a ringtone, I want to shut that off and only have phone rign for incoming calls

Go to settings > sounds and change your notification tone to silent.

Or go into each individual application (sms, email, gmail, talk, etc and change the notification setting there. The voicemail notification is through the default notification tone.

If you haven't already, I would suggest downloading the full user manual from Motorola's website.

Try enabling Silent Mode by placing a check in the check box on your Atrix. That will turn all sounds off except media and alarms if there are any set/playing. I'm not quite sure if it will silence incoming calls, however, which is what you probably do not want.
