Samsung Captivate Not Syncing to Laptop

I'm trying to transfer photos from my phone (about 300 or so) to my HP Windows XP laptop computer so that I can download them onto my iPhone 4. When I plug my Captivate into my laptop via USB cord, my laptop does not recognize it. When I plug my iPhone (3GS) into my laptop, it recognizes it right away.

Why does my laptop not recognize my Captivate, but it recognizes my iPhone? If the phone cannot sync, then I don't have much of a choice but to e-mail them to myself, which could take a LONG time.

I need some help/guidance. Any help is much appreciated!
