Exactly...lol!
I NEVER use any of the things that cell providers "individualize" to their services.

Omni-Tek: Wont be until after the SGSIII has been released and had its run! So 30-45 days!
I think Omni-Tek is working for AT&T, because he is replying as AT&T representative.

T-Mobile seems to consider their customers enough to post when a release is available:
http://www.samsung.com/us/support/SupportOwnersFAQ
Wish AT&T would do the same. I have a sneaky feeling I'll be rooting my Note at the end of this month as there wont be an AT&T sanctioned ICS update for KIES.

If there ever was a first-world problem, this has to be it.
a) The Note ICS update will be including a plethora of updates to the S Note suite, as well as other Note-specific applications.
b) You're hardly slumming it on Gingerbread. ;-)
c) They are clearly testing the snot out of the ICS update before release. Remember, the AT&T model of the Note is the only version with an LTE radio and 1.5Ghz S3 CPU--if they didn't take their time to test it, released it, then bore a nasty bug, everyone would complain that AT&T/Samsung should have taken their time to test the update. There is no officially-sanctioned way to downgrade the firmware, it's a one-shot deal so I don't doubt there is some heavy regression testing going on.

good post and I agree in general.
My main gripe is that AT&T can't give a date, even if it slips (like many software release dates) - at least it would seem like they are more customer oriented.

Agree. If they release a crap update, they'll pay with ticked off users. I'd like to see it sooner than later on the Note, but I'd rather it work too.

You knew it had gingerbread but you still bought it, most phones get updates late, you still bought it
Yea T-Mobile got it but their phone came out first before they skyrocket and way before the note. international note got ICS but it came out last year so it gets it first
There are leaks online and I ran them so you know they are working on it. Do you want a buggy release? Of course not because you'll just complain on how bad it is
There's no point arguing since it just goes back and forth. If you want it get it (root it) you don't need it, the phone's not broke without it
A little research before the purchase would have showed you how long before these updates come out but you still bought it regardless, att or any carrier is not the one to blame
If you really want updates fast buy a nexus phone otherwise enjoy gingerbread until ICS comes out.

I'm not that worked up. I'm just disappointed with AT&T not being able to provide a date for ICS updates/a site to check it on.
Telus now also provided a date.
I realize it is a matter of not releasing buggy OS on the phone (there is a reason I'm Adnroid not Windows on my phone).
I just think AT&T should proivide a date. I have the rooting option (which will also remove the bloatware), but that is a bit scary still.
The alternative is to buy a non AT&T branded phone and that is a route but then there is no reason to commit to any lengthy contract with AT&T either and getting the phone from Google next or seeing how to get the OS straight from Google for 5.0 may also be an option.
At any rate no communication from AT&T is just less customer friendly than I'd hoped for.

JFizDaWiz, you sure indeed sound like an AT&T employee - they will tell you what you want to hear when you buy it but once you get it at home, it's all - "well, you knew what it had when you bought it". lololol
Kidding - but the reason why this is different is because the ppl bought this with the expectation that ICS was coming out in Q1 and then Samsung made a big event of it being delayed to Q2. When most people bought the AT&T Note, the expectation was that ICS would come in the same quarter and you can fault people for expecting that - but that was what the people were told by Samsung and many AT&T reps - that don't worry that this brand new amazing phone has Gingerbread b/c ICS is just around the corner.
Now that Samsung has kept it's end of the deal to release ICS in Q2, it looks like AT&T will miss it from what I read... I think someone said a rumor of July 17? AT&T seems to be notorious for delaying things until after a new product launch (S3) so that it wouldn't grab attention away. Personally - I think it's not so much ICS for me - but I do want the other S-Pen apps that are supposed to come with it.
I think everyone who bought the Note from AT&T had every reasonable expectation that ICS would come out quickly. I know it's not in AT&T's control when Samsung doesn't have it out yet - but now they do, and it's really all AT&T's time now.
I am momentarily distracted by the S3 that is coming out this week as well... ![]()

seems the phone is the same model Telus sells and they can somehow give a date (July 17 I think it was) on ICS for their customers. Too bad we don't live in Canada eh ;-):

I am an ATT enterprise user and I am paying a lot of money to have this note. I love the phone. The large screen is great for reading emails and books specially if you are stuck on long flights.
Anyways back to the topic when is ICS coming back. I called up ATT last Saturday and asked them when is the note getting ICS. They conferenced me with Samsung and after checking the IMEI of the phone they were like well Sir not scheduled for Updates yet.
I was furious. I bought the phone in Feb and paid a premium of $300 and had the tag line ICS compatible. The guy on the TImes Square ATT store was like the update is right around the corner. I was like even if it is a month late its still worth it.
Its been almost 4-5 months no update and now S3 is out. I feel I wasted my money. ICS is key feature and should be included in the phone when selling it. If there is such a big delay don't sell the dam thing and spoil the experience.
I consider this as a product defect and the fact that s3 is being launched and we still don't have an update makes me even more furious. We paid a premium and all the crap about we get handsets for discount is not an excuse. Keep in mind you sign a 2 yr contract. You have to keep paying for the data plan, the voice plan and all the other overages that come along with that for the 2 yr.
I pointed this out to the rep and she got me to the manager Mr.. R and he goes why do you need ICS and what's so great about it. Name the features. After wrestling with that his final argument was you paid for the phone not the software. Well Mr.. R smart guy, software is key part of the phone can you make the phone work without the software.
Shame on you ATT for making good paying customers suffer like this. If this was a free phone and I had no liability I do not have a right to complain but I am a paying customer and I feel cheated. I read on some post July 16th is when they will start pushing ICS updates. Well after S3 as expected.
Dirty marketing makes good customers like me furious. I have been a loyal ATT customer for last 3 years. Giving me a response saying software is not a big deal and then use it to advertise the phone is wrong.
After a long argument with Mr.. R about why software is not a big deal i have filed a complain with FCC and I have asked them to investigate this under wrong advertisement. All those who feel the same can do so here.
http://esupport.fcc.gov/complaints.htm
You can't do that ATT.

And again, there are leaks of ICS out that aren't stable enough for everyday use. Do you want a bug filled update that can break your phone? No, you don't. If ICS. Was released today you would scream bloody murder on how you thought it was rushed.
Just wait its coming I've ran the leaks, its almost there

Seriously... This is getting to a point of annoyance. Loyal (and happy) AT&T customer for 16 years. Moved away from iOS with the promise of a premium operating system on a premium phone... Now I'm left with a $300 phone which runs a system found on phones that come free with contract.
I realize testing is needed, but customers want INFORMATION... A statement saying "wait 3 months" is better than no news.
I expect more from my provider.

That you want to stay on Gingerbread has nothing to do with this thread - this is about ICS and how AT&T are unable or willing to announce when a release will be available.
This whole 'story' about it is ready when it is ready and we don't know when that is, come on.
I realize there are no money in making ICS available faster than otherwise as well the sale has been made and therefore limited resources is put on it and as long as most of the other big US companies are as slow AT&T are not likely to lose any customers as where will you turn.
So the option is to root it, which leads down a path that may be tricky or to buy an international version.
An international version is full price and thus there is no incentive to sign a 2 year contract imho.
Companies that are organized have dedicated QA and project managers and they can deliver dates on anything else, but again I realize there is no money in ICS.
The argument that it needs to be rock solid and tested through, well of course, but that is just to be expected though.
I mean look at Toyota when they forgot to test component integration.
The other argument of why do you want it..hehe, that is just silly (or an excuse), this is technology and a new version with new options are there, it's pretty obvious why most people would want it.
Maybe if Google starts selling phones and contracts then there will be some competition/incentive to keep customer(s) informed of release dates.

Obviously firmware for the international verison won't work in the At&T version as there are differences. Of course I get that so I'm not sure why you're suggesting I try it..
I guess where we differ is on your contention that it is a "completely different device". Both have same screen, S-Pen, form factor, features, camera hardware, etc. Yes there are internal differences, but to claim that it is a completely different devce with basically no relation is completely overstating the fact. I think most poeple realize this intuitively. Is a phone made up of its part numbers or its form and functionality? Part numbers can change merely for compatibility purposes but still perform identical function, as can codecs, etc.
Obviously Samsung thinks they're both close enough to give them the sme name... :-/
Entropy512 wrote:
Mandroid wrote:This just isn't true. The differences are the CPU, buttons, and the LTE antenna. Othewise it's the same phoine. Same shell, same form factor, same screen, same S-Pen, same camera, same DAC, etc. To say it's completely different just isn't factual. It is, in fact, the same phone essentially with a diferent CPU.
Now, closer to the topic, where in the world ICS for my Note? Price is getting slashed and we early adopters get the thanks of having to wait longer than virtually everyone else in the world for this update.
Which makes it a completely different device. ARM CPUs are "systems on a chip" where most of the system's peripherals lie on the same die as the CPU itself - swap the CPU and you've changed nearly the entire system. It makes it a completely and totally different phone. The only things in common between the two devices are external dimensions, the screen components, and the battery - EVERYTHING else is completely different.
Even if it may also use the MC1N2 - that's only a small portion of the audio subsystem. The modem audio interface is completely different, as is the CPU's interface to the MC1N2.
The entire graphics subsystem is completely different, including all video codecs. Even if the external camera peripheral is the same part number, that's only 5% of the picture when it comes to the software to use it. 95% of the work on Exynos devices is done by the Exynos FIMC/MFC - components which are COMPLETELY different in architecture and usage on Snapdragon.
If the I717 is as similar to the N7000 as you claim it is - Get the N7000 release of Cyanogenmod 9 running on the I717 as well as it does on the I9100 in two weeks. If your claim is true, this won't be a problem at all for you. After all, that's longer than it took me to get the I9100 CM9 release working on the I777 as well as it was running on the I9100.
