Cool! I'll be anxiously waiting to see when it actually is released. In the meantime, I'll be checking this site in the phones for sale section starting on the 28th.

Another user who's switching from Windows Phone 7 to Android? Hey, Samsung does have some great phones.

I'm starting to get a bit excited myself knowing it will be released soon, been using the WP7 Focus for the past 9 months and honestly my favorite part of this phone is the 4" Super AMOLED display, thoughts of a 4.3" Super AMOLED Plus display plus real OS customization has me down right giddy... Soon as a concrete release date is set I'm putting my Focus on eBay and jumping on the Galaxy S2 ASAP

That's right. So far, my Captivate has not had any problems. I'm not saying that it will, and I hope I'm not jinxing it, but as phones age, they tend to not work as well.

Something Apple and their new iPhone cannot contend with?

I'm really happy that AT&T and Samsung made their announcement of this phone. I'm going to finally make the switch from the iPhone 4, and I won't look back. From everything I have read about the Galaxy S2, it's going to be the best device in AT&T's smartphone lineup.
Irish Rose, I've always thought of you to be an iPhone girl. I'm surprised and somewhat happy that you've decided to give Android and the Galaxy S II a try!

I agree. I really enjoy using my Capivate. Of all the phones I've used, only two were non-Samsungs. The trend also runs in the family - everyone except one brother has a Samsung to rely on.
Irish Rose wrote:
A friend of mine also has the Captivate and hasn't had any issues with hers either. I think Samsung makes some really nice devices.

I promise, you will not be disappointed with the switch! Android has so much to offer, and much more customization than iPhones can allow.

Also asked him if rooting a att android phone voids the warranty and surprisingly he said NO, he said it's not the same as jailbreaking a iPhone, can anyone verify this??? I would think they wouldn't allow modding of this type on a new phone, seems like it could be a att tech support nightmare if novices mess with OSs??
Anyway, time to start making my eBay listing for my WP7 Focus

Stopped in my local AT&T store yesterday and talked to a rep there and he said they should definatley have the GS2 by Oct. 1st, perfect since my upgrade date is Oct 1st

Rooting the phone DOES void the warranty...maybe the rep just wasn't completely sure about it. But any sort of rooting or modding would void the warranty, so I would not recommend it unless you have very strong confidence that your phone will never have any problems.
How much for the Focus?

As for selling my Focus, I was kind of disappointed in what I see them going for on eBay, obviously it's not the phone that is keeping the prices down rather the OS, wp7 isn't in great demand by any means..

I used to be a die hard WM fan. Now I own two WP7 Focus and one Android (Captivate). Yes, WP7 is designed for mass (or dummies) but it get that job done quite decently. So is iPhone.
Android phone is another story. My personal experience with it (after over 1 year of ownership) is that conitnues where WM left off. Yes, you can customize and hack all you want just like WM. But it will never feel 100% or even 90% satisfied. And you do have to customize and hack a lot out of box in order to get a decent functionality out of it, just like WM.
And then, there is the *LAG* on home screen and everywhere else (not just Samsung problem, other Android phones share the same issue) as you use your phone more and installed more apps to it. Dual-core and even 1.5GHz CPU won't cure it. Completely opposite UX than WP7.
I still use my Android phone for only one reason: The built-in cloud services Google offers right now is vastly superior to what MS offers for WP7. Google Maps and Google Navigation is light years ahead of the poor Bing service (although my Captivate suffers the infamous GPS problem that makes it useless for navigation but that's Samsung problem, not Android). Google Places is my go to tools whenever I travel (similar services in WP7 will show up in Mango). Google Voice let me ditch my AT&T voice mail altogether and can make international calls without dialing special number of code. Not to mention I can also send and receive SMS without paying a dime to AT&T.

Well put Foxbat, customizing the heck out of the phone is exactly what I what to be able to do.. I have been reading up on the droids and GS2 in particular and seems there's tons of adjustments that will correct lag, although in all reviews of the GS2 lag has never been a issue.
Jimsearle the answer to that is:

The key change in GS2 is replacement of the file system from the lag heavey Samsung RFS to standard ext4. That solves most of the lag issue with original GS1. But inherently, Android and even HoneyComb still lags pretty bad when you compare them to peer devices like WP7/iPhone or iPads. If you are coming from GS1/Captivate, you will probably say there is no lag on GS2 but that simply is not true. Google still has a long way to go to optimize the Android OS.

instrucrat1, either your not familiar with the GS2 or just trying to trash Samsung..
This phone isn't a "New" phone, it's BEEN released, sold and used all over the world since the early this year, look at the release dates in other countries http://samsunggalaxys2review.org/samsung-galaxy-s2
It's just taken this long to finally make it to the states... At least we know there won't be any bugs lol
