Actually yes. In the Engadget article they said ATT included the HDMI out with it and it is not included, so that must have been for their review sample

You should try a 24 hr walmart I have gotten tons of phones early there. As long as the sales rep for the respective company isn't there, the walmart employees usually sale them. Or Look for a kiosk that is dead, like they need sales.

edit--I just nosed around on WMs site, and took an example, Infuse (one I was interested in), and it says it will not work in my Zip.  Huh?  My local ATT store carries that phone.

No I got it from a ATT Kiosk in a mall. But I have gotten phones from there before before street date. He** I got an HD2, HD7, and G1 from a walmart like that. Got a Xperia from a independent store a few times as well.

You really have reading comprehesion problem. Engadget never said, nor Samsung, there is no NFC chip in the phone. What Engadget article said is that the NFC is not currently enabled. So, it is just a matter of when AT&T will enable NFC with a firmware update. It is not the same thing not having NFC hardware at all.

Fox seeing you're familiar with Android could NFC be enabled by rooting and enabling it with some guidance from the guys at XDA or another mod group??  Also since you brought up the security glitch earlier it would be crazy to enable NFC until the logon security glitch is corrected... yes?

Talking about chips... does anyone know which DAC chip is the AT&T version of the SGS 2? Does it have the Yamaha or a Wolfson audio chip? My understanding was that the Wolfson chip was going to be in some of the revisions of the SGS 2, but I could be wrong.

I highly doubt it. NFC is all about security (for payment function anyway). If anyone can monkey with it, it won't be too useful. For example, out of box, Google Video requires a secured boot loader and non-rooted OS in order for it to work (but there are work arounds). The main issue with NFC and AT&T phone is that AT&T is one of the big backers of the competeing system called Isis which is still in early stages of development. Until that is done, there is no sense for AT&T to enable NFC. It will never officially support Google Wallet according to one of the rumor.

I just called my local AT&T store and the store manager confirmed that they only have 3 in stock right now and I was the 3rd person to reserve that phone. He assured me that I will definitely get the phone tomorrow. I am already a happy camper right now before it's even released.

Well I just called a few stores here in Nor Cal and was told that this market (Sac) would not be receiving them anytime soon.  Guess I'll just keep my Infuse and pass on this phone for now.  Was going to exchange since I recently upgraded but now I'm not sure what to do.

Not too sure.  I called yet another store and they said I'll be able to order it online so I guess I can return it and hope I'm instantly made eligible againt to then order online.  The problem is that the phone I bought was from Sam's Club and I'm not sure if my eligibility will be updated instantly or if it takes a few days to then make a purchase online.

Anybody got the phone in California? I have called all the AT&T corporate stores and best buy near Los Angeles and they told me they are not going to get the phone, i would love to try it before to buy it online

Yeah and Sam's Club along with Costco are both clueless on if and when they'll get it too.  Luckily I have some time still to do the exchange so I'm just gonna hold off and relax for the next 10 days that I have.  Appreciate the responses...

And I prefer the stores I've mentioned above as they charge tax on the sale price, not the value price which is a pretty substantial difference...

I forgot to ask, does this allow a live desktop background, like a moving screensaver?  I noticed that feature on the Infuse, or was that just for display purposes?

All Android phones have a 'Live Wallpaper' option with a ton of animated backgrounds that can span multiple screens.  I don't use them myself as they tend to draw a bit of battery and I need every drop I can get...

I am confused.  a friend of mine told me the s2 will only be available for online orders starting oct 2nd.  they have them in stock right now at his att store but will not be selling them in the store because of the software glitch with locking the phone.  They wont be selling it in the stores until this is fixed.  i have called 6 other stores in the area and all the people at the stores tell me they don't have any and one guy even said they will never be selling them in stores in CA.  Why doesn't att or samsung give everyone a straight answer?
