Why the hatrate?
I know more about Captivate and GS2 than you ever know.
Obvious OP is asking for a way to know the status by simply look at the screen, not unlock the phone first. Your status bar won't show up until you fully unlock the phone.
Thats weird I can see my missed text messages and facebook crap and my status bar (stock btw lol)

I stand corrected. But the default lock screen (without the pattern or PIN lock) does convey more information as part of TouchWiz enhancement. You can drag/click on the items and directly go to the phone log or open the message without the extra step of unlock the phone.

Yes, I do. You want to try? And I don't own any Apple product before you start to blame me for apple fanboyism.

Not sure if this has anything to do with people having that unlimited data plan issue when trying to get the SGS2 via the corprate website or not but figured I would share, I hope this is not off topic.
It really looks like AT&T wants to kill off the unlimited data plan :'(

Let's get a handle on tempers please, sad to see even the moderator had to step in..
We're all here to help each other and no one is perfect, you still have to give that person credit for taking the time to try and help no matter what the issue is....
One thing I can say is foxbait is a great help here on this forum and its nice he is so knowledgable about Androids and Samsung phones, better yet that he takes the time to help others with those devices..

That Iphone data expire plan picture is fake. there is no expiration on unlimited data. Unless the user set that up.

True, my wife has the old $30 unlimited grandfathered, thank goodness because she's always on the go and wifi catching would be almost impossible...

Don't think you have to worry about that, if they change unlimited and you have it already you will just keep it and be grandfathered in.. That was my point about my wife's phone, she probably doesn't need the unlimited data BUT there's no way I'll give it up since she's grandfathered in for once you change you can't go back..

Everything about the phone is spectacular! What I was looking forward to the most in buying this phone were its customization features and boy am I pleased with it. There are so many themes that you can use and they look great too. As for the applications, there are so much more than I thought they would be! I was and am pleasantly surprised. As a previously frustrated owner of a blackberry, this phone's internet gives me peace of mind as it is sooo easy to use and the scrolling/zooming is so crisp! The ONLY downfall with this phone is the battery. I never had to charge a phone so much, ever. After an hour or more of using Pandora, battery basically goes to half point. But honestly I've never been so pleased with a phone purchase. I can deal with the battery issue since I gotta admit, this baby is a handheld computer!
And actually, speaking of which... the back of the phone heats up after a while, much like a laptop would. So I suppose that as well as the battery issue would be the two downsides. Other than that, I am just addicted to this thing! I straight ABUUUUSED the talk to text feature these first few days. But recently I've noticed I haven't used it as much. I actually forget the feature is even available sometimes o.O. SN: Speaking of, I wonder how often those upcoming iPhone 4s users will actually use Siri (especially in public!)
I wanna thank my boyfriend for putting me onto this phone. Ever since he told me about it in august, I've been stalking the phone ever since. It's too bad in the end he couldn't get the phone he wanted though, since verizon decided they weren't coming out with the phone anymore. Now he's stuck trying to tell himself that the iphone 4s will be better since he recently preordered it. I guess we'll see which one is better when his comes in the mail on the 15th.
And I just wanna thank my fellow frustrated AT&T (some who have now switched to Sprint) forum family for allowing me to vent when AT&T wasn't answering many of our questions regarding this phone's many rumored release dates. And I wanna add how disappointed I am that they did not advertise this phone enough at ALL! Such a great phone and yet there was absolutely NO line to get it! My bf and I were stunned to see that my car was the only customer car in the parking lot of the at&t store the day of it's release.Anyhow, I am pleased with my purchase and thankful to all the wonderful and helpful forum members here. I hope you all are pleased with your GS2s as well!!

I'm loving the phone. Had it for about a week and it has met all my expectations (waited for about 6 months for it be released) BUT there is one major flaw that I cannot figure out. The battery is not what I expected it to be. I'm pretty Android savvy and have tried multiple ways to fix it. I hear people getting more than one day of battery life but mine doesn't. I can get through the day but just barely. Anyone have any ideas besides modding the phone? P.S. Android OS usage is about 80%.

thats the problem with android ... i am waiting for my galaxy s2, it was backordered yesterday .. now it is not .. but it is already 2 days no shipping .. ordered on friday ! I guess the amoled screen is supposed to consume less power ... but getting less than 1 day is certainly a feature of most android phones ...

I have the same problem. I can probably go no more than 8-10 hrs (and I probably downloaded almost every app in the app market). I have about 5 apps running all at once sometimes but I go to task manager and close out all of them and try to clear up as much RAM as possible for my battery's sake. Still, 10 hrs is probably the longest I've gotten thus far.
I hear that getting a charging dock with extra batteries helps because once the stock battery dies, u'll have another charged battery on-hand and ready to switch with. I just don't like the idea of me having to take off the back cover everytime to change the battery, as I have very short nails so it's harder for me to get it off. But feel free to try it out for yourself! ![]()

Hi Yall! I bought my first Galaxy S2 (GS2) when it came out last October. Around January I noticed when I swiped all the way to the left or right or up or down on a photo or webpage, that there appeared a shadow band of blue about a centimeter on the opposing side of the swipe. It wasn't there when I bought the phone new. I took it to a ATT store in Little Rock and was told that I could swap it out by sending it back to ATT. I wasn't to sure if I wanted to take all my data off and be without the phone, so I held on to it. Then in early April I picked up the phone and turned it on and couldn't get out of the screen that says Galaxy SII in white on black backround. Long story and hours on the phone.....ATT couldn't get it out of the "Boot Loop". I lost all my data. I was able to get another "refurbished" GS2 from ATT. It had the same shadow problem so I sent it back and received another that had the same problem. Long story and hours on the phone (land line) I sent it to Samsung. They said they found something wrong with the motherboard but it passed all their superficial tests. I spent more time on the phone trying to explain the problem and couldn't talk directly to the tech who worked on it. "They will know when they get it in the shop". Right. I spent more time on the phone and now it's coming back. Here's the email summary they sent me:
Original Problem:
TECHNICAL INQUIRY - LCD / TOUCH PANEL / LED - LCD DISCOLORATION
Problem found:
LCD BLANK/SEG. MISSING/LINES
Solution:
REPLACED LCD - S/W UPDATED - REPLACED TOUCHPANEL - PASSED ALL FUNCTIONAL TESTING
We'll see what we get.
Anyone notice this problem with their display? Try swiping all the way side to side or up and down on photos and webpages and maybe other areas displayed. Be sure to backup all your data on a regular basis. You too could get a refurbished phone.

I'm not saying you don't have issues with your phone, but I'm not sure that *this* one is an issue. FWIW, I liked the old behavior MUCH better.
