AT&T is releasing an update for Samsung Galaxy S3 owners, but the update (in my opinion) does more bad than good. Due to Apple lawsuits on Samsung, it will remove the Universal Search from the phone (The Google search bar which you can search contacts, music, apps, etc.), and you will no longer be able to do that anymore.

Unless you want that removed, I dont think its worth the update, but I am just giving everyone a heads up

I believe there's a radio and kernel update also. Supposedly, there's a way to to add the search function back, after the update. But you have to be rooted I think.

I honestly dont really use the universal search as much anyways, I just have everything I really use on my homescreen, but I dont think ill be updating

I accepted the update on my S3 yesterday, and my Google search bar still works. I tested by using voice search first for Comic Con (got search results) and then asked for Mom (got her contact page). I restarted first just to clear it.

I auto-log into my Gmail account-- think that would make a difference? Anything else I should try to test it?

I get a communication error with the ATT update every time I check it, the update hasnt popped up on my phone yet. How long should this update rollout take?

The Google search bar is still there, but it no longer allows you to search things in your phone (apps, music, saved documents, etc.), I think it only allows you to seach the internet now
