I will agree with ak50below (I take it your name is because of the deep freeze in Alaska)
The problem I had was my fault and after doing it correct it works really well other than the email which is not mturcich24 fault.
mturcich24 dont give up on giving us support because that is all we seem to have
I had an email issue as well when the phone rebooted. MINE was solved by going into the Email App > More > Account Settings > Incoming Settings and changing security type to none. I was then able to receive no problem. Had no issues sending. Hope that this works for you.

I would wait to see what would happen. I talked to Samsung's level 2 support team yesterday, and the rep said something that the other reps did not tell me. Recall the issue at hand here: phones with UCKH1 firmware are unable to upgrade to Gingerbread because Kies mini sees the phone as an unregistered device. A problem with that particular OTA update (back in September, not November) caused this current Gingerbread upgrade problem, and Samsung is very aware of it, the rep said. She added that Samsung is working hard to fix this problem.
All of this information came from a LEVEL 2 support representative. In other words, she knows what she's talking about. She does not know the release date of this fix, but that doesn't matter. What really matters is that Samsung is aware of a problem and is working on it. Is that too much to ask for? What more could you want?
AT&T, according to jamileh, is also working with Samsung to get more information about it.
So you can all calm down now. The fix will come when it comes. I've learned to not obsess about it so much. True, I'd love to get the update, and it's a bit of a disappointment to have not received it in a timely manner, but hey, it's NOT the end of the world, for goodness sakes! As of this posting, there are 46 pages with 455 responses, including the OP.

mturcich24 (I assume it was you; your name was different on xda lol) showed me the post he made with those great instructions and I just wanted to come on here and say good job on that. :-)
For what it's worth, the homebinary he references in my xda post is the file from samsung's servers so if that means it's official, then so be it.
<rant>
The funny (maybe not that funny) part is that this is the exact same build that was leaked on xda back in December. I want to know what the holdup was in getting it to us because it would seem that absolutely nothing changed and they didn't put scrolling wallpaper support back in. This has to be the ONLY Android device I've ever seen that does not have scrolling wallpaper. What gives? It seems like they're programming in obsolesence and annoyances in the hopes of getting upgrades to new phones. How about appropriately supporting the ones you have in customers' hands? It's bad enough AT&T/Samsung feel obligated to add bloatware to the devices but to purposely disable one of the fundamental features of Android is just... well, wrong. And let's just forget about that leak in November that had Carrier IQ in it.
</rant>
Anyway, props to mturcich24 for providing instructions on how to get "official" GB to whoever is still having problems. :-)

Another confirmed update to Gingerbread on the Samsung Infuse 4G. Thank you for this solution! I have been waiting so long for this...
Kudos.
Edit: I did forget to mention that I did lose all text messages in the update. Also, Quick Office is no longer available.

It appears that it is possible to make a mistake performing the un-official update.
Even if AT&T was to make this official there is a chance that something can go wrong. It is not fool proof. I'm not going to get into who's fault it would be if there is a mistake made. My only point is that it could happen. We are human and make mistakes.
Another clue as to something serious can go wrong, in a previous post about this un-official update it says - Also I am not responsible if you mess up your phone and brick it. When you see a statement like that, think twice and if you do decide to do it be very careful and read the instructions several times.
The official way would be the way to go. You connect your phone and push update. I don't see any way to make a mistake. The only thing is we will have to wait for the fix.

Myself I became tired of waiting for the "official update", so I went with the "unofficial update" and
to be honest I couldn't be more happy. If your not comfortable, attempting the unofficial update, I suggest you
wait for the Samsung Kies update (days or weeks who knows)

24 hours right now an no issues all day and my battery is 47% and I have been on my phone all day and getting txt and using facebook. My phone went came off the charger at about 11am today mst and has been plugged in a couple times to do test for this fix but that was for 5 to 10 mins other then that it has been off the charger. Thank you Gingerbread for saving my battery life and to jvanlew for finding this file. And thank you to everyone for pushing it out to all the forums, I have seen my post all over Google which is crazy this is truly a statement of what people can do when they come together to find a fix.
Now bring on ICS for the Infuse. I am ready to take that one on.

As a software engineer, I can tell you that the rationale provided by 'Level 2' support is absurd. They are lying to you people. I can't legally recommend anyone take alternate approaches to flashing this firmware, but I can tell you that these are are the most ridiculous excuses I've ever heard. To 'fix' a problem like this would require... I dunno, and HOUR of *my* time, assuming I was involved. NOT to say that I'm so great, but to make the point that they are feeding you excuses to APPEASE you until the update is rolled out to you. The real cause of the problems and delays is most likely complacency.

Hello everyone,
Frist off
I too had the problem that everyone is having with Kies mini saying my phone is unregistered and Samsung support not doing a thing to fix the issue, but I found a fix last night and it does not require gtg unbrick to be use or your phone to be rooted or any of the like. If you follow these steps you should be good, if you have problems plenty of us on this thread can help you out.
If you have issues following instructions this is not for you, if you brick your phone it is your own fault, not mine, or ATT or Samsungs.
Now on to the update.
Here is what I did and many others like me:
1.Download the .md5 file from here http://davidstarenterprises.net/I997UCKL2-Homebina
If you have a Mac I have been told that you could unzip it and flash it thru heimdall, not sure of how to do this as I don't have a mac, so if someone wants to try this and post how to do it with a mac great.
2. Next Download and save Odin3 1.7 from here http://davidstarenterprises.net/Odin3 v1.7.exe and save it to your desktop (again on your computer this is where your icons are) this will be a quick download. Open Odin3 v1.7 up. Don't click anything in Odin till the md5 file is done downloading, go have a cup of coffee or surf facebook.
3, When the .md5 file is done downloading it will be called I997UCKL2-Homebinary.tar.md5
4. In Odin click PDA(not phone yes robjob19 I used your blunder as a example) it will pop open a window browse to your desktop or where ever you save the file select the file and click open.
5. Do not click anything else in Odin leave everything the way it is.
6. Next place phone in download mode here is how you do this:
Connect the usb cable that came with the infuse directly into your computers usb ports does not matter which ones you use front, back, side.
A.Power down the phone then remove the battery, put the battery back in, you will need two hands for this next part press and hold both volume buttons easiest way is to push in the middle of the volume button with your thumb, then plug in the USB cable that came with the phone in to the bottom of the phone. You will get a message on your screen that says Warning!!!
B. Custom OS can cause critical problems......
a. Press Volume up to continue
b. The screen will change to a yellow Triangle with a black andriod at the bottom it will say do not turn off Target!!!!
c. Your phone is now in download mode.
C.You will see the device connected in ODIN, and it should have the second row of boxes filled in as such 0:[COMxxx] your com port will change mine goes between 3 and 4 you may get 0:[COM1] as long as it is in there that is all you need, it will be in yellow.
D. Hit the Start button in Odin to begin the upgrade process the box above the com box will have stuff in it now not a whole lot to read there.
D. In Odin there is box that says messages in the bottom left it should have the following:
<ID:0/00x> Added!!
<ID:0/00x> Removed!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> I997UCKL2-Homebinary.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Successfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 1 / failed 0)
You also see a progress bar on the phone in blue if not then the update is not taking and you may get this
<ID:0/004> Added!!
<ID:0/004> Removed!!
<OSM> Enter CS for MD5..
<OSM> Check MD5.. Do not unplug the cable..
<OSM> Please wait..
<OSM> I997UCKL2-Homebinary.tar.md5 is valid.
<OSM> Checking MD5 finished Successfully..
<OSM> Leave CS..
<OSM> All threads completed. (succeed 0 / failed 0)
8. If you get this and no progress bar start over by removing the battery and the usb cable and try again to put the phone in to download mode.
9. Once the process completes, the phone will reboot on its own
10. The phone will think on the ATT splash screen for awhile about 2-3 min that is normal with any update on a phone
11. Welcome to Gingerbread. you can verify this by seeing the icons at the top in the tray will be smaller (i.e battery, signal, network,)
A. And by going to menu-> About Phone ->
a.Firmware version will say 2.3.6(GB)
b.Baseband Version will be I997UCKL2
c.Kernel version will be 2.6.35.7-I997UCKL2-CL806505
d.Build Number will be Gingerbread.UCKL2
If you brick your phone you didn't follow the instructions.
Any questions please ask there are enought of in this tread and forum that have done this with out issue, so we should be able to help you out. Even if that means holding your hand ever single step of the way though PM.
Anyone listed in the tag below I know has seen the results first hand and knows hows to help you or can point you in the right direction. If you have ran this fix and confirmed it worked and can help people out please add your username to the tag, I will make sure that ATT knows who has helped out with this issue, I do not want to take all the credit for this one as I know there are lots of you helping out.

@AK50Below: I am obviously not an employee of Samsung or AT&T, I just know that pushing out a (now very well tested) firmware image is not exactly a complicated task. It is simple, programmatically. The only issue is QA, which has been done for months. The images people are flashing on their own are the *exact* images found *months* ago on forums elsewhere. Either you misread, misunderstood, or didn't read my comment correctly. It is easy for them to 'fix' this update issue, if they care to. The notion that their engineers are working so hard to resolve the issue is just absurd, at least to me. It's a joke, told to people who don't understand how simple it is to push a well tested firmware image out, so they may be appeased until either Samsung or AT&T finally decides to get their act together (or collaborate).
And, yea, this update is good. You are missing out. I like it.

Ok, I'm sorry in advance but I'm a noob to all this tech stuff, and have been watching this thread every day in hopes of good news of an official fix. This unofficial fix that somebody put up, will it or will it not void my warranty? AND if I do decide I'm done waiting and go ahead with this, is there any way at all to get rid of it and go back to UCKH1?... as if nothing ever happened? I have never rooted any kind of phone before. I'm not worried about carefully reading and following directions, I'm just more concerned about the warranty.

This will not void your warranty as it is not a root or custom rom, but the official build of Gingerbread. There is away to go back to UCKH1 but i cant post on this site as it would be a custom rom hack.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
