Do you mean the problems that jim_pie and I are having with installing the update or the battery problems?

Did you have administrator privileges when you tried the upgrade? And did you make sure that all other Samsung drivers and programs were uninstalled? If possible, uninstall everything Samsung related, reinstall them and try the upgrade, all with administrator privileges, remembering to have a fully charged battery, a working data cable, no driver conflicts, and abundant storage space remaining on the phone. These are what I will try when I myself try the upgrade again. Also make sure your Internet is reliable (try using an Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi when downloading the update).

Yes I did all that. at&t has two downloads available: kids mini and a driver package. When I uninstalled kies mini and Samsung drivers through my add remove programs I thought that would be enough but when I tried to install the driver package it said I had other drivers installed and that I would have to remove them first. I then descovered that in the driver package was an unistaller, so I used it and bam it was like I had never hooked my phone up to my computer. I tried to install kies mini by it's self and that didn't work. Uninstall everything again and reinstall kies mini with the driver package and still no joy. I am almost certain that if I were to send this garbage phone into at&t that they wouldn't be able to upgrade it either. Probably send me a new phone. I'm going to have to see because I'm giving up.
Are you saying that Kies mini doesn't see the phone anymore? Can you be a little more specific as to what new problems you're having? I'm the kind of person who needs to see all the details behind a problem so it can be fixed.
I am so baffled as to why some people can't get the upgrade to go through while most others can. What is it that we did so differently that we can't upgrade our phones? That's what I'd also like to know.

I loaded up the Skype on my SGSII and my wife's Infuse (both with gingerbread)... I had to manually turn on video chat in the Skype, and Skype warned that it wasn't "approved/tested" (can't remember specific word), but i could set it on... and it worked! Cool... but it just makes her Infuse's Google Talk not allowing it more annoying... I checked both phones and they both say Talk version is 1.3, so I assume the app has a list of allowed phone models or something. I don't know much about the Google Talk, but I don't see it on Google Play (Market), so i guess its just an app that they load on phones and that's it? Outside of that Google wants you to use Google Voice?

I had issues with some cdc abstract control module when I connected my phone....
I did have kies mini installed prior bc of registering the device....
Needless to say I uninstalled kies mini and reinstalled it as well as the newest drivers.....
I then reconneceted my phone and the battery was too low to do the upgrade....it even says it on the computer that the battery is too low lol.... But I charged it up to 80% and tried again....
Downloaded, and decrypted the update just fine......but when it came time for it to install it just wouldn't work......the phone had he little android guy and a yellow caution sign saying not to turn off device or computer.....after it hung it said to remove battery and if that don't work reset the phone.....I did not reset....
Something did happen to my phone though.....I lost titanium backup but superuser is still there..... Also not sure if its just me of not......but pulling menu down from the top still has silent.....but pushing the button on the side of the phone it says flight mode.....interesting....

No I'm saying that the driver uninstaller worked like it was suppose to. After I reinstalled kies mini and plugged my phone in, my computer searched and installed the drivers again as if it were the first time. But no matter how many different ways I try to update it just wont work. Same thing every time "downloading binary files", "decrypting binary files", "decompressing binary files",......."unable to update device" AAAGH!!!!!!

I just want at&t to release the update as a rom so I can use a program like odin to update my phone and not have to use samsungs' crappy installer.

At the very end of samsungs support page it says: "When the handset goes into download mode instructed by Kies Mini, additional drivers need to be installed. A timeout may occur from the time the drivers install until Kies Mini can detect. Should this occur, close Kies Mini and remove the cable. Next, remove the battery cover and battery. Afterwards, insert the battery, place the cover back on, and power on the device. When the device reboots, connect the data cable and open Kies Mini".
This is what I suspect is happening to us. However the "additional drivers" never install so we just keep looping back to the same problem. If we can figure out a way to installed the "additional drivers" when the phone is in download mode ie: the yellow android caution downloading sign on your phone, I think that will solve our problem.
You see the computer reads the phone as a different device as soon as it switches into download mode instructed by kies mini. We're just are not getting those drivers installed for that mode of the phone.

I was able to upgrade without any issues. Plugged in my phone and went to bed. When I woke up it was already updated.
However this didn't work for a friend of mine. He had to use another PC, since drivers just didn't want to install due to some other drivers presented in the system (some sort of the conflict).
Try using another PC or laptop and make sure you have internet connection when plugging in your phone.

OK I have made a little head way. I have figured out that the driver we need when the phone switches to download mode is for "gadget serial control". This is what XP recognizes your phone as when in download mode. I am going to try and find this driver and manually put my phone in download mode and get my computer to recognize my phone when in this mode first. Then I am going to try to update through kies mini....wish me luck.

Yes but I want the update that supposedly at&t updated since then. I know it has the same file name but there are suppose to be some tweaks and bug fixes to it.
Oh and I was able to install a driver for download mode but that didn't help. It doesn't look for the drivers once the download mode switch is initiated but I still get unable to update.
Next I'm going to ask my friend if I can try it on his new computer. Mine is old but runs XP service pack 3 so It should have worked. USB is 2.0 but maybe the ports are to lame. I don't know. Worth a try. If that doesn't work I'm going to demand at&t do it for me.

I came back for a visit to see if any one has a reliable method of rooting from the GB update and I was shocked to see that so many people are having issues with the GB update. Mine worked fine and my Infuse runs better than ever. If it's of any help, here are some extra pointers:
- I uninstalled an old version of Kies and then installed the new version.
- I'm running Win7
- I rebooted my computer before attempting the upgrade. This cleared any memory or resource issues from programs I was running.
- I did a fresh reboot of my Infuse.
After I took the above steps, the update when about as smooth as one could imagine.

I received a message from jamileh. I first contacted her to find out why an upgrade would fail. She wrote:
Samsung provided these instruction in attempt to resolve the download issue you're having. Will you please go through these steps exactly as listed and let me know if it works?
- Install Kies mini and restart the PC.
- Power the device off. Plug in the USB cable while holding the up and down volume keys. This will place the device into download mode. The PC should install drivers needed for the download mode.
- When the driver install is completed unplug the device from the PC.
- Remove and re-insert the battery and power the device on.
- Place the device into USB debugging mode. Menu > Settings > Applications > Development > USB debugging. Touch to place a checkmark.
- Start Kies Mini
- Re-connect the device to the PC
- Follow the remainder of the directions given in the upgrade document.
I have to wait until next week to do all this. ![]()

I just want my phone to work. At this point I don't give a carp whether it's gingerbread, froyo, or chocolate chip cookies. I Odin'ed back to stock and couldn't be happier.
And those that are using GB without issues, good for you. But you're not going to fix everyone's problems. Some phones just don't play nice.

Kies Mini detected my phone and indicated it was ready to update. The update went smooth from start to finish and took less than 15 minutes. Scrolling and animations were jittery at first but smoothed out after a while. Did this about 5 days ago and don't see much difference in performance or battery life.
Overall I'm satisfied with the upgrade but it seems my screen is a little less sensitive; have to tap it a couple of times sometimes to get it to respond, especially to end a call. Also, the little green "call in progress" phone icon in the status bar stays on for about 10 - 15 seconds after I end a call. No big deal, but annoying.

I updated a few days ago and had similar problems where it would hang on the install screen (when the yellow guy comes on). after a few minutes it would say it did not upgrade. I tried completely uninstalling Kies and re-installing to no avail. I am running XP. I began a online chat with the Samsung. The customer service girl gave me the generic, "that upgrade has been put on hol. AT&T and Samsung are working to remedy the problem.......". I informed her her facts were wrong and was asked to hold-on. After holding for awhile, I began a phone call into Samsung.
For me to get it to work I used a different computer running Windows 7. It took quite awhile to download Kies but the upgrade lasted all of 3 minutes. (I did do a factory reset prior to switching computers and tried to upgrade but that didnt work either).
Things look a little different on different pages. Sometimes it seems quick and snappy other times not so much. I dont like the new keyboard. The current problem I'm having is my phone has been restarting itself, over and over again from time to time which is what brought me to this forum. Anyone esle experienced this problem after the upgrade?
Hope it helps.

Where did you hear that there are supposed to be different versions of UCLB3? As far as I know, the released version is identical to the version that leaked in February. (UCLB3 itself contains tweaks and fixes from the original GB release, UCKL2.)
