Hello everyone, I am new here. I am considering gettting an android phone. The ones that AT&T currently offer just aren't doing it for me. It seems like all other carriers have the best phones
. I would REALLY like to get the Motorola Milestone (GSM version of the Verizon Droid) unlocked and use it on AT&T. My understanding is that the Milestone is primarily for the European market. The last time I got a European phone, all I could get was EDGE, and no internet besides WiFi. I have heard conflicting ideas and approaches in tems of whether or not the Milestone will function properly on AT&T. I certainly don't want to buy it and then find out that it won't function properly on AT&T. Does anyone have any advice? Has anyone out there tried an unlocked android on AT&T? Did it work?
Just FYI, this is what I am looking for in a phone-- QWERTY keypad and touchscreen, Nice sized screen, not clunky, NEITHER an Iphone NOR a Blackberry, and very stylish.

The Milestone is a quadband phone, so yes, it should work on the AT&T network properly. However, if you purchase an unlocked phone, you must also make sure the WebSessions listed are for AT&T. If not, they need to be removed and then the correct ones can be acquired from Motorola's Website: Motorola MMS & Internet Setup.

Be careful as not all Milestones are the same. You are correct. European versions will only let you use the EDGE on at&t. Canadian version (I believe from Telus) would let you utilize at&t's 3G. So check.

@ dgrbovic Yes, I've heard from several other sources as well that the Telus Milestone would work on AT&T. I plan to do more research before I make such a big purchase. What would make this easier is if AT&T would hurry up and get some more cool phones (HINT HINT). LOL. Thanks for the advice, though.

Does the Milestone register on AT&T as unknown or as a smartphone?
Thanks
