Why don't you take it up with that guy in Best Buy?
There is no ETA of ICS for Skyrocket (or any other phone on AT&T). It will probably happen in second half of 2012 if you are lucky.

As Foxbat indicated, I do not have information on when this update will be available.

AT&T already published a list of phones that will receive ICS update a few weeks ago. Your phone is on the list. That's as far as we know.

I have the previous version of S2 (i777) and took the 2.3.6 update that ATT provided back in Dec'11. That completely messed up my battery life. Ever since I took it, I have to charge my phone twice a day for average kind of use. ATT replaced my battery, but it is still the case. Many people all over the forums face this issue ever since they upgraded to 2.3.6. Now I'm desperately waiting for the ICS update to get rid of this issue. This is quite frustrating. I'm kind of stuck here. I called ATT and Samsung, and neigher are owning the issue.
When there are leaked ROMs out there, I'm sure the update is ready to go. Any insight and dates around release will be really helpful.

There are already two leaks and a 3rd one is out soon for i777. The first two obviously didn't make the cut. The 3rd one is probably generated in early April. I'd say there is probably at least two months to go for official release if that last one passes the certification. That is assume AT&T won't drag its feet to delay it. Realistically, I'd guess it will be out after GS3 is on sale on AT&T. So, in other words, don't hold your breath for it. There will be no 2.3.6 bug fix release. It will be ICS or nothing.

Does anyone on here know when the OS of the Samsung Galaxy S2 Skyrocket will be Upgraded to Ice cream sandwich? I had asked this question to a Supervisor at Samsung. He told me he was not sure that I would have to contact AT&T and Google to find this out. That they at Samsung basically just make sure the updates will roll out smoothly.
So when is the update coming anyone have a date? I know there has been at least two leaks of it but that is for people with rooted phones, i.e. voided warranty.
Edit: Ok I see other people have asked the same question and AT&T claims they don't know.

I am less worried about voiding my warranty but completely worried that I'll brick the phone. I want an OTA download soon. It's really frustrating to keep hearing, it will come in the first quarter of Q1, but it's now April and we haven't heard anything from AT&T. Google and Samsung won't have anything since it has to come from the carrier. When my last phone went from 1.6 to 2.2 the ROM had been out for months but I could only install via AT&T,

I have read on the XDA sight that they put many precautions, against bricking the phone. Plus they have a way to return to un rooted stock form, from a soft brick and it is almost un heard of now a days for a hard brick but there is that occasional one that does. I'm more worried about the warranty though as this skyrocket is a very exspensive phone but is cheaply made could easily break. Repeated putting in my pocket has already losend the body of the phone a little. How ever I know of a few people that have rooted their Skyrockets and installed custom ICS ROMs but all of them have some bugs, even the ones that people have worked on to remove the bugs. I also read that it would be by the end of the first quarter now Iam reading by the end of the second quarter. By the time It comes out and everyone recieves it, it will probably be by the end of the first quarter next year.

Yep it's pretty sad now that T-mobile has just announced their rolling out ICS for SGSII next week. Come on At&t we are supposed to be rethinking possible!!! It seems that At&t will be the last carrier to roll it out cause Verizon has done so a month ago. Wow what happened to being a leader. Sorry just ranting a little.
Couple of days ago I call At&t and the person I got to talk to was not effient at all, I asked them about ICS and she says ???WHAT IS ICE CREAM SANDWICH???? I wanted to just hang up then.....

{word filter evasion} Well if T-Mobile will have it then XDA will definitely get it and make a bug free one. That is for rooted phones anyway. I don't think AT&T has been first or best for anything. They seem to be the followers who wait around to see what everyone else is doing and then copies them. Oh wait they were the first to have a Iphone. LOL which is a great representation of AT&T they are just like the followers of Iphone. If I had not used a good Android phone before playing with a Iphone, I would think Iphone was good. But I had used a good Android phone and I could not stand the Iphone it seemed like junk to me. The only reason I got AT&T was because a family member offered to add a line, so it was a little cheaper for me. If I had my own main line I definitely would have VERIZON as they have LTE in my area, and AT&T has only there fake 4G which is really only 3.5G speed. I will probably have to wait two more years for LTE. That's what a guy from the AT&T store had said. By then VERIZON WILL HAVE A 6 or 7G or LTE.

Be courteous u say. What goes around, comes around. ATT opens their mouth, and that is about it.
If we don't like thiings we can always take our business some other place.
I am as frustrated as anyone is. When ics comes out it will be time for an upgrade..

The issue was without a doubt present in UCKK6. It was also present in international XWKK5, but this was rapidly replaced with international XWKL1, which fixed this issue.
I would strongly recommend installing a ported I9100 ICS firmware release, or if you want maximum stability at the cost of being an Android version behind, I9100 XWLA4 was the pinnacle of stability and polish for Samsung Gingerbread.
The update is NOT ready to go - as usual, AT&T decided that their version had to have major changes from the I9100 baseline, including enabling MMC_CAP_ERASE in drivers/host/mmc/mshci.c of the kernel. This change, combined with a hardware defect in nearly all Galaxy S II variants, can result in permanent damage to the phone's hardware. That's right - while the I9100 ICS firmware releases are 100% safe to run on your device, the AT&T leaks so far have proven to be downright dangerous.

AT&T is notorious for refusing to get off their collective rears and actually get work done. Overall, they employ some of the laziest developers out there (and among the dumbest). My guess is they don't really give a crap about customers that are currently on contract and are gonna hold off until the SIII is out and the excitement around that has died down before bothering to release any ICS updates.
Bear in mind, to work at AT&T your IQ has to be less than your shoe size and have a total disregard for any morals. I have yet to meet anyone that has worked for AT&T that has an honest bone in them or any integrity at all. There's a reason they are consistently voted as having the worst customer service each and every year - they've earned that distinction and continue to do so.

Completely ridiculas how long it has taken to get ICS to the skyrocket. Never have i seen an update given to the carrier from the device manufacturer take so long to push out to their customers. I bet the next update Jelly Bean gets released before we even get ICS. Pathetic.

It's been 12-18 months since I did this with my last phone (CM7 at the time). I've been scourng the XDA forums and suffering from information overload and differing opinions instead of facts. Do you have any suggestions on where to find the best, definitive steps for doing this?

The phone companies are notorious for this. They need to test the update and then add their bloatware.
If phone companies sold computers, they would be breaking out Windows Vista about now.
Independent developers work much faster.
(To be fair, they have the luxury of just releasing stuff and saying "try this at your own risk - if it breaks your phone too bad." ATT can't do that.)
You can usually download the updates from Cyanogenmod, XDA, or other forums many months before the official update.
(I used to have a phone with Android 1.6 Donut.
Cyanogenmod came out with 2.1 Eclair, 2.2 Froyo, and the 2.3 Gingerbread.
ATT never got past Eclair.)

Rodgers is getting theirs today, AT&T is last once again. Come on AT&T finish adding all the Bloatware you can that automatically uses data. Maybe quit trying to find new ways to rip us off, and put out the update.

There is no offical Cyanogen Mod, for Skyrocket. If there was it would be on their site. The CM9 that people are using is frankly a buggy version found on XDA, that has been worked around to work with the Skyrocket. Still it is quite buggy and really not worth the hassel, due to these bugs.
