I have a new Galaxy S II Skyrocket, and looking for a micro SD card.
Price varies with Class rating. What's required (2, 4, 6, 10)? I can't find this in the Samsung specs.
I usually buy the best availalbe, but don't want to overpay for Class 10 if I don't need it (they're expensive!)
Thanks.

Class rating is refering to card's write performance. There is no class requirement from the phone side. Any class will work. Cheaper cards will be slower of course. But that won't affect any phone operations.

Very slow cards (class 2) MIGHT have a problem with 1080p video recording.

That's true. I did some testing and the average bitrate is about 2.2 MBps in 1080p video mode which is slightly higher than class 2. However, you can still use the internal storage for such tasks.

Thanks. This is good info. I planned to get a Class 4 card, so sounds like it should work fine (and save a bunch of $$$ vs class 10!).

Beware that often the fastest cards are the most likely to have reliability/compatibility problems.
Your PNY card was cheap because it was PNY. I haven't ever had a product of theirs last more than 2-3 months before failing.

So class 2 or 4 may be too slow, but faster speeds less reliable? Or faster speeds ok with the right manufacturer? Buying a micro SD card for my new SGSII is on my to-do list, I was thinking class 10...

Class 2 and 4 cards have better random access speed and random r/w than class 6 or 10 cards in general.
I run SanDisk class 4 cards in both phones and my tablet. Why? Because from both personal testing and benchmark tests grabbed from XDA and random Googled sites, they're simply the best performers.
