We've got a fresh look! Take the tour to see what's new.
Recently, the wife & I both got LG Thrill 4G - Model LG P925 with Android 2.2.2 Op Sys on them. I read the blog about the Gingerbread update to Android 2.3.3. It sounds good. But, my concern at this point is the data usage. Even though we tried to shut down, turn off, or disable running applications, the phone is still transferring data even as we sleep. Two nights ago, her phone did two separate large data transfers about 5 hours apart - around 5 PM, it transferred 20MB, then after 11 PM it transferred 7MB. We didn't do anything (knowingly) to make these data transfers. No photos or videos were recently taken to be transferred. I cannot figure out why, or how to monitor exactly what it is that is being transferred in each case? My phone is doing the same thing, but at lower byte counts.

I haven't figured out how to do that? Go into "Airplane" mode? That shuts off all communications, except for emergency.
Never mind. I've figured it out. I'm still new to smartphones, so it's taking me a while to grab on to the technology.
You found a solution but I can give you the reason as well. If you have a Google account the phone backs all your personal data that you have put on the phone up to a Google storage site. That way in case you have to restore your phone at some point it can recover all your personal data from that server. The backups are done almost nightly to make sure anything added that day gets backed up. 40Mb a night however is not going to make a dent in a 2GB account.
