I have IPhone 3GS, 6 mo to go on my contract.
I can wait 6 mo and then upgrade to IPhone 4 at low cost plus 2 yr contract. If I do it now, they charge me $599 for the new IP4!
But can I buy a used IPhone 4 from a private party and ask AT&T to activate my used IPhone4.
Do they just switch the sim card?
If AT&T will do this, will they ask me to extend my contract for 2 yrs or just run out my existing contract?
Thanks for the help

you can get that phone from wherever you want and all AT&T will do is charge you $25 for the SIM card (it's a different one, a micro-sim) unless you feel like cutting your current card, and possibly breaking it lol.
Who knows they might even give you the card for free, visit a COR (company owned retail) store

Changing to the new phone won't extend your contract.
You will have to go to a AT&T store to get a new microSim and have the info on your current sim transfer.
Whether they charge you for the microSim is a random crapshoot. Then they will need to update the imei number of the phone in the computer.
