Am I eligible?

Hello, I just have a quick question on my eligibilty for an iPhone 3G S. I am on a family plan with 4 other people in which nobody has an iPhone. My 2-year contract is up in september but I was wondering if I could get the iPhone 3G S this weekend for the price of $199. From what i've seen on here, it would be a no but when I went in and asked a sales rep. she said that yes I was eligible, there would just be a $18 upgrade fee. So my question is, was the sales rep right? Can I get an iPhone???

Yes, you'll be eligible to do an early upgrade to get the 3GS for $199.00.

I believe this is incorrect, since nobody in the family has an iPhone. From what I read, unless AT&T changed course again overnight, only people who have iPhones and upgrade eligibility dates between July & September will be eligible for the early upgrade.

Brian, I believe you are correct, the July-Sept. is an "iPhone early adopter" upgrade, and only applies to iPhone owners.

Why would AT&T not be inclusive of other phone owners that are upgrade eligible in the same time frame? I'm not asking for the world here, just fair treatment that they are giving the iphoners. Eligible is eligible is eligible. Lame.

Ok, now that the "iPHONE" "APPLE" lovers/users that complained about not being eligible for a few more months got their way, now everyone else that doesn't have an iPhone wants to complain too. Well, you should have kept up with the Jones last year when the iPhone 3G came out. JUST KIDDING...

This is probably something that AT&T and APPLE worked out to allow this. Really nothing you can do about it, just wait until September and get your phone then. Honestly, if you went this long with out the iPhone 3G, you really not missing much with the 3G S. I have the iPhone 3G and I won't be upgrading until the iPhone 4G or what ever they call it, comes out next.

As someone who would benefit from not having to wait to upgrade and even receiving a waiving of the upgrade fee, I'm certainly appreciative of the company for doing it. But, I honestly think all they're doing by acquiescing to "revolt" is making problems for themselves.

When you say, "ok, we're going to let a-b-c group have this," the d-e-f group will get mad. When you say, "ok, we'll include d-e-f," then g-h-i folks are going to raise up.

It's gotten so silly now, that purchasers who bought 2 months ago are now "righteously indignant," and want to know why they are being treated "badly." Really?

I don't know. I think if the company were to just go by the book, they'd have more of a leg to stand on when they have to defend themselves. It's apparent that the more you do, the more people feel entitled to, and they never see the absurdity in it.

so let me get this straight, my line shows eligible for upgrade on 8/11/2009 (18 months), but because I am not upgrading from an iPhone 3G, I have to wait until then even though someone who got an iPhone about 12-13 months ago can? We have a Family plan and spend over $300 a month with AT&T but if I have to wait 18 months and someone who got a subsudized iphone a year ago doesn't I am bolting to another carrier

Are you insane? Techie devices upgrade every 3 - 6 months. iPhone is a techie device, not a phone. Yes some regard it as a phone, but it isn't really. It's a mini PC with a Sega Saturn graphics card that allows you to talk to each other. People are already furious with at&t, because all of thier co workers get a new iPhone, but they don't. The hatred of at&t is strong...check it on twitter. Everyone who owns an iPhone I know hates at&t. at&t is trying to keep the peace, before verizon gets in on the deal.

Ok, so some of you are saying no and some are saying yes... What I have been seeing is that if you are eligible to upgrade to a new phone in July, August, or September (By this I mean that your 2-year contract is up) that you can get an iPhone 3GS at the reduced price of $199. So can I? Or cant I? To me it seems like a yes unless I am reading something wrong here.

There is a difference between being eligible for an upgrade and your contract being up. From what you are saying, it sounds like you should be eligible for an upgrade because you are past the 18 month mark in your contract. Your best bet to get a surefire answer is to either go to the att store and have them check or check yourself by logging in to your account online. One other way is by going to the apple.com site and beginning the process to buy there. You will need the last four digits of the primary account holders ss number to do that.
