Actually, data is suspended... likely the connected devices will see a long stall and then will resume once the call drops. At least that's the way CDMA/EVDO always worked for me in the past.

Umm, I'm sorry. What was the question again?
LOL--with all those features AT&T has over Verizon, you'd think AT&T would have more customers than VZ...yet, even with AT&T having had the iPhone for over 3 years the subscription numbers bear otherwise (if the figures are to be believed).
Sorta reminds me of a saying I heard/read somewhere about restaurants--you go there the first time for the food, but you return for the service.

sorry I prefer going to a restaurant for the quality of the food. Have been to a restaurent where the service was exceptional but the food would gag a maggot.
I stay at att in my home area becasue it works the best - and I am in an area that all three of the major carriers can supply an acceptable quality of service. Have been with ATT (or a baby bell - if you are old enough to know the term) since a cell phone put out 5 watts of power and was mounted in a car.
1. roll over minutes
2. excellent call quality in my home area
3. data/voice at the same time
4. unlimited data
5. GSM
all excelent reasons why I stay. Add the Unity voice package to the deal to where every ATT owned number through out the world is no minutes for me. A family plan with my wife and 3 girls on it, 99 percent of the numbers call are ATT base, end up rolling over more then 600 a minutes a month on a 700 minute plan.
funny though - tone of this thread seems to put stay at att in the lead.

have always had the data portion drop, but then again it maybe time out values on the sending side. Voice calls for me tend to drag out - especially if they are business related

Everything I posted were things that are important to me. Obviously others' mileage may (and should) vary.
I'm with ATT, and plan to be here for as long as they continue to provide me with the level of service I'm happy with. If that should change, I wouldn't waste their time or mine airing messages on boards complaining about it, day after day. I'd rather go to where my needs will be met.
But that's just me.

I can think of quite a few reasons for why i will keep the iphone with att.
1)rollover minutes
2)for me gsm battery life has always been better
3)data plan has worked nicely(price and speed)
4)call quality has been great lately
5)calls and surfing same time
6)iphones been out for almost 4 years now so no temptation to switch (too little too late vz)
The biggest reason is that i can easily take the sim out of the iphone4 and pop it in a cheap phone(or many of the unlocked phones out there) for days i have to work out in the rain and dont want to ruin the iphone.
Too many reasons to stay with att.

There you go again SLIKRICK talking common sense. How DARE you!
BTW I'll be staying with AT&T for the very same reasons. For me, AT&T is FAR superior in coverage, call quality, customer service, value, and functionality. Rollover minutes and simu-voice/data are priceless to me. Verizon has a very long haul to be competitive IMHO. Just read that they are dumping "New every 2" Another win for the customer...I I mean the company. But hey, if someone comes along with a better deal, I'm all ears.

So are you factually challenged, or do you enjoy having your arguments steamrolled? Did you miss the part in the articles about how AT&T has been gaining ~380K customers per quarter relative to Verizon, and that the Alltel acquisition is the primary reason Verizon is still #1?

That makes more sense - I know it's a different technology, but even with 2G GSM I've never had an issue using data and receiving a phone call during a data session. The data connection suspends while I'm on the phone and then the phone goes right back to it's data activities once I end the call. Granted, they aren't long calls though.
There must be a happy medium somewhere between being totally informed and blissfully unaware.

Good luck and good riddance to those that do. AT&T works hands down better in my area than Verizon does. I have never experienced a dropped call or slow data on either my 3G, 3GS or iPhone 4. Works like they claim it does every time. LOL sux to be those of you in NY or San Fran. I think you'll find the quirks in Verizons antique network enough to bring you back to AT&T at your first convieniance.

Personally, I’m going to be staying with AT&T. One of the main reasons I got the iphone was that I had no service where I work with Sprint (and consequently Verizon seeing as they both use CDMA), whereas AT&T does. Plus, I wanted an iphone. And, I do like being able to use data and voice at the same time, which I have used quite a bit. I’ve had no issues with AT&T’s service where I’ve live/visited; I’ve had good call quality, no dropped calls or any other issues. Also I know a lot of people complain about service in NYC, and while I don’t live in NYC, I have gone there a few times since I got my iphone, and I have had no issues whatsoever. But as far as the network, I don’t think, at least at first, that Verizon will have as much of an issue with the iphone as AT&T did, since I think that the majority of people getting the Verizon iphone will be current Verizon customers, at least initially. But like others have said before, hopefully a lot of people put their money where their mouth is and switch to Verizon, and open up some bandwidth on AT&T’s network.

There is no reason to not just let them leave. You can post shortcoming on service from both sides. There are tons of news sites/studies/surveys/opinions that are pro/con for every carrier.
If they are not happy and state they want to leave, are going to leave or they have left, just wish them farewell and good luck on their decision.
It's better to just help those wanting to get ATT or have ATT and have issue. Convincing people shouldn't be a big concern. It leads more to flaming than real support.

I was all about the iPhone until I got an Android based phone. I honestly think the Android is better just because the app market open and not controlled like Apples is.
Thoughts?

Why are you still posting about iPhones? If you don't have one, why do you want 'thoughts' about them? Is it because you're still a little bit 'all about the iPhone'
I had a 3GS and used my upgrade for the Captivate -- I lasted 2 days before I ate the restocking fee and went with the iPhone-4. Once you've had one, it's hard to switch -- you apparently can't stop thinking about it ![]()
What is it about Apples' AppStore that you don't like? Is there a particular application you can't find there? What is it that they control that's getting in the way of your enjoyment? Personally, it's like a candy store to me -- you've not been very specific in your criticism, it's almost as if you've not actually used the AppStore ![]()

Who'd want to go back to a place that served lousy food, period? Duhhhh...
I dunno about you but I'd choose not return to a particular restaurant at all rather than to go back to said restaurant that offered great food but lousy service.
In any industry where some type of service is being offered (in addition to a product or products), the quality of service is just as important as the product itself. Do you think Apple is well-praised by consumers solely because of the products it sells? Just read the comments from folks talking about how Apple treated them right when they had issues with their iPhones/etc.; look at the Genius Bar service that Apple offers at its stores. Again, service is just as important...and necessary, for a product to be successful.

You talk about how VZ's numbers are due to its acquisition of Alltel...yet you spin numbers about how AT&T has gained that many customers over VZ while conveniently leaving out the fact that the majority of those customers were gained due to the popularity of the iPhone. Do you honestly believe for one moment that AT&T would be gaining 380K subscribers per quarter relative to VZ had they not gotten the iPhone? AT&T's subscriber numbers are where they are today quite frankly because of the iPhone, not necessarily because they claim to have the fastest wireless network or offer features not offered by VZ and/or other wireless carriers or that they have the best service period.
And oh BTW--you could made your point/counter-argument w/o feeling the need to first preface them by making snide personal comments. Makes me sorta wonder why someone would need to resort to such lowbrow comments in order to make a point...

Again, there have been complaints about apples service and handling of situations - so they are not the siants that is made out to be.

I don't think either one of these carriers have perfect records when it comes to service. I have minimal service with AT&T but use the MicroCell to fix it. Verizon has decent service but can't do voice/data at the same time, which I use. However, for someone else AT&T may have great service and Verizon not so great.
Location makes a big difference.

Yes AT&T removed unlimited data for new subscribers, after the network got over cluttered by the iPhone. What do you think Verizon will do in a couple of years if not sooner???

I'm sure the Verizon customers won't like it, though, considering how many people complain here... But if they're a heavy user (average over 2GB monthly), then I don't blame them.n

AT&T allows you to do simultaneous voice and data, they have rollover minutes, their plan prices are lower, their customer service is better, their data speeds are faster, and they do grandfather you in on plenty of existing services. Sure, AT&T has dropped calls. Who doesn’t? And what do you expect when you sell 50 million iPhones on the same network? Of COURSE you’re going to have some congestion. I expect to see the same type of congestion emerge on Verizon’s network with the predicted exodus of AT&T customers for Verizon. More power to ya! That will make the AT&T network even better once the fickle souls have gone, only to find out that their minutes don’t roll over, and if they need to check an email or look up movie times or other information and make/receive a call at the same time, good luck with that. AT&T is just fine, and they’re not the swollen, uncaring-towards-customer-service behemoth like Verizon is. They’ve saved me money, they’ve never overcharged me, they’ve always been fair. I’ll take that in a million years, a million times a day before I’d take Verizon. (And yes, I did actually try Verizon, to be fair).
