Backing up contacts

What is the best way to back up the contacts on the iphone.

i know everything syncs to the cloud. but that is not a backup right?

ICloud is a form of backup. You can also sync to some other program via iTunes or directly with google. I sync from my iPhone to iCloud to a couple of macs.

Every time you sync to itunes, it makes a backup of the phone as well.

You can sync your contacts to Exchange, Google, and/or iCloud servers on the iPhone itself, as well as your local address book on your mac or PC via iTunes.
