Can i use my iphone Just as an IPOD

I just bought this iphone from a guy a craigslist. I got it today and i just restored it.Note:i only got this to use as an ipod i DO NOT want to use this as a phone. Now it says to connect to itunes and to insert a sim card.What do i do.PLEASE HELP

I have not done it but suposedly you can use it as an iPod. If you do a search here, you may find some refernce to what you need to do. You can also try google:

Ive tried that but also when i plug the iphone into itunes it directs me right to the activating process and i dont want to do that....PLEASE HELP

In reading some of those threads, there is not a clear definitive this is what you do. If you do not have a SIM in the iPhone when you hook it up to iTunes, you might be OK. Realize that most folks here are subscribers using the iPhone to also make calls and may not have been challenged with only using the iPHone with service. Since my iPhone is active, I cannot pull the SIM and put myself in the same state as yours to see how to do it. I would continue to try Goolge, Howard Forums, and Apple's site to increase your audience.

Yes you can use the iPhone without a wireless service plan.

do you have a AT&T cell phone with a active sim card? if so put it in and activate the iphone then remove the sim card. my 1s Genration iphone is going to my daughter. to be used as a ipod. i did a retore today and it said inset a SIM CARD to activate the iphone. i used her sim card i activate the iphone removed the sim,and it said iphone activated. now shw is using it asa ipod and a WIFI device for youtube music videos.

it wont activate for service once you start the activation remove the sim card.itunes will say setup as a new iphone thats what i did.it did not get that far into itunes to

start service for the iphone. once i seen it said iphone activated i removed the sync cable was good to go.BUT you have to use a Active AT&T Sim card.

the iphone wont activate for service unless you complete the process.just unplug it after its activated.

You can also use an inactive AT&T SIM card. You just have to make sure that it's an AT&T or Cingular SIM. Can use a T-Mobile SIM unless you hactivate, and that causes issues.

It doesn't appear this issue was ever resolved. And I am having the same problem. I have the new iPhone 4 with AT&T wireless service, and I want to use my old original iPhone as an iPod Touch. It has the original SIM card in it. I connect it to iTunes in order to sync, but I am prompted to activate it with AT&T. I don't want to add another phone to my AT&T account or create a new account so I have to cancel the process. I have read the Apple Support article http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3406, but it doesn't mention what to do if AT&T requires you to active. Has anyone else seen this? Thanks for your help!

When you activate you are activating the phone not the at&t sim card. This will not affect your account.

pop a sim card into the iphone. go thru steps until it says select your rate plan. disconnect the iphone from

Itunes the Iphone will activate remove the sim card and your set. i done this on my 2g iphone. my daughter uses it for a ipod/WiFi device.
