Family upgrade question - split release dates

I have a family plan with my parents as additional lines, I have an i4, they have generic ones at the moment.

My dad is dying to get the Samsung 3 this month - to get the good price, I know we have to renew the 2 year contract. Is that contract specifically for his phone, or is it for the plan?

The reason I ask is, whenever the new iPhone comes out, I want to make sure I get the good price on that as well.

If each phone number has their own contract, like they do upgrade eligibility dates, then I'm not worried.

But if they all use the same contract date, can I renew my contract, again, whenever the i5 is released?

Is there a way to check contract dates on your account?

Each phone has its own contract and upgrade dates. Your dad upgrading now has no effect on your phone's upgrade eligibility. You can check upgrade dates on line or by dialing *639# from your phone. You will get a text message with that phone's upgrade info.

You can also cancel the additional lines anytime without affecting the main accountholder's line. Just remember, in order to be a family, at least two lines must stay in plac to maintain a family plan.
