Just take your sim out of the 3G, put it in the 2G iPhone and connect to iTunes. If you are worried about your contract restarting, then take it to AT&T. I'm not sure if your contract will extend on the 2G anymore. It shouldn't.

If the phone has not been opened you won't have to pay a restocking fee. If you switch back to your v1 iPhone and drop the 3G data plan, you are probably responsible for some fees or the unsubsidized price of the new iPhone.

EDIT: nvm, early termination fee. figured it out 2 seconds after i posted. But will I be charged for switching back?
EDIT 2: they open the phones at the store, how could you ever avoid a restocking fee?

Ooops. I guess there is no way to avoid the restocking fee. There shouldn't be a charge for switching back. If you are within the 30 days, the only charge should be the restocking fee.

Just put the 3G sim card into the 2G iPhone
Plug into iTunes and setup the phone on the existing number.
It removes any data and texting plan you might have (including family unlimited so remember to call and add that back)
Activation took 30 minutes, but it send you an email when its done.
Restart your phone and you're good to go.
