Hello, I had purchased my iPhone 4 last July and had asked for insurance to be added right away, but the sales representative denied it - saying it wad unavailable due to fraudulent activities and things like that due to popularity of the iPhone. I'm sure this is, or has been, a popular topic and I have tried researching but, to no avail. I am extremely upset because my phone has shattered and is unsafe to use - I cut up my finger a couple times now. It seems like it would be more worth my time and money to disconnect the entire plan rather than spending $500+ for a similar model here, or elsewhere, since I asked for insurance in the first place. Any thoughts, suggestions or help? Thank you very much!
If it is just the glass, apple can replace that in the store, price will vary depending in if it i just the glass or both the glass and the screen that broke, call a local apple store and make an appointment. Assurion's coverage is poor to say the least, your deductable for the iphone I believe is 199.00.
As far as cheaper, it depends on how many lines you are planing on canceling, what the phones on it is and how many months you have completed on ieach.

Thank you. The nearest apple store is unfortunately 2 hours away in Milwaukee. I only have 1 line.
It might be your only valid option, there is pretty much no chance that insurance will be added retroactively, this is not att's policy but assurions policy. If I recall the article correctly the stores can do it in house.
There are 3rd party vendors that can handle this but they are not recommended by apple, there is even video on the web that shows you how to do it, again it is at your own risk.
If you have to send it to apple you can always pickup a temporary att gophone and use that while your iphone is out for service, caveat there is if you have a grandfathered unlimited or previous tiered data plan on it will be removed.
Just comes down to what you want to do.

Where did you buy your iPhone 4, at a authorized dealer or AT&T Corperate Store? You could of gotten AppleCare from Apple, after buying your iPhone 4, it suppose to cover bust glass screen on your phone.

Those who pay a third-party for iPhone insurance should look into getting a Visa card that offers free protection for theft and damage. The benefit is called "Cellular Telephone Protection" and it is offered by select Visa cards.
The coverage is $250 per claim, as well as the $50 co-payment. The maximum limit of liability is $250 per claim occurrence, and $500 per 12-month period. The net is you would get $250 back on a claim of $300+ for no monthly fee.
I have a no-fee Visa that offers this benefit and I consider it quite valuable. If someone is paying $10/month for similar coverage, s/he could save at least $120/year.
