Is it possible to view stored photos on iTunes?

With other desktop syncing programs I've used, it was possible to view the media that's stored for backup on the device. Is it possible to do that -- namely, my pics -- with iTunes?

I have not found a way but the photo tab does allow some sync with some programs. I have not tried that option so I don't know if it is a two way sync or only one way. When I need to get photos off for archiving, I use a program (ACDSEE) that sees the phone as a camera and I can move the photos into my photo library. ITunes after all is a music and video library in my book.

Thanks for the response. It seems a little strange that it wouldn't be st up so that users can view their photos on the computer, too. They're there to store, so I'd think a natural thing would be to view them too. Oh well. Can't have everything. Thanks again.

Not sure how it works on a PC but on a Mac the iPhone syncs photo albums in iPhoto through iTunes and you use iPhoto to import new photos taken with the iPhone.

Not sure what operating system you are using, but in Windows Vista Ultimate every time I plug my iPhone in to sync it Vista sees that it's been plugged in and treats it as a camera. It pops up a dialogue asking if I'd like to import any new pictures it finds on the phone, asks if I want to give the pictures a special tag, and then places them in the 'Pictures' folder in my user's home folder.

I have Vista on my laptop, and Windows XP on both my home and work desktop computers. I also have Adobe Photoshop on all three, which has an autoconnect feature similar to what you're describing. I can view and import the photos there as well.

What I was wondering, though, was whether there was a way to view the photos already stored on the iTunes program, itself, which seems like it should be a given. I figure, the pictures are already there, anyway. Why not be able to click a tab or something, and just view them?

If anyone has had a Palm Treo, and used their desktop syncing program to backup their device, you know exactly what I mean.

You know how you can go into the music section of iTunes, and see the songs already stored on the program from your iPhone? Like that, but with the pictures.

As in being able to connect your iPhone to a computer that has iTunes (I assume not from your computer as all the synced photos would already be there, right?) so that you can view your photos via that computer, correct? If so then, no, there is no way to do what your wanting if I uderstand you correctly.

When connected the device only shows the services basically that can be purchased via iTunes. iTunes doesn't provide a real device explorer function like Windows Mobile devices does.

No, I meant being able to view photos on iTunes on my computer, completely independent of syncing with the iPhone.

In this scenario, the photos would already be on iTunes from earlier syncs with the iPhone. So my thinking is that since the photos are already there, it should be a no-brainer to be able to turn on iTunes and see them, just like you can see your songs or apps that are already on iTunes.

The answer then would be no. There is no photo application/feature built into iTunes so there would be no way of using iTunes to view photos (either from the device connected or the computer). You have to use the photo viewer you normally use on your computer to view the files on your computer.

I guess they could build something in. The way they are going it needs a whole new name anyways. Its no longer just tunes. You also have videos, photos and applications that are at least partially handled. its more like iMedia

In iTunes, go over to the "Photos" tab and check the "Sync photos from:" option (and choose a place to put the photos from the dropdown).

Now when you sync your phone, the photos you take with your iPhone will show up on the computer in the folder you chose. Also, if you want to put photos on your phone, just drag them to that folder.

Let me know if that works for you.

When I tried it, it was not a two way sync? It only took picutres from that folder and put them on the iPhone. Was this corrected in a subsequent release of itunes?

Thanks for the suggestion, but didn't work for me, either. As an alternative, I can still see the pics from the phone via the Photoshop application, so it's no big deal. I just thought it would make sense to have this a a feaure of the iTunes library. No biggie.
