It depend on the model you order. Most people preordered the 16GB model. If you ordered one of the other model, your probabily get it faster. I ordered the 16gb model on October 11 and it's still on backorder.

What the heck is going on, I ordered my new iphone 4S at 10:30 am on the first friday and here it is Oct. 19 at 2pm and Iphone still showing backordered? We should have got our phones before anyone could pick them up in the store a week later!!! ATT has lost me as a future customer.

Does anyone know if I can just cancel my contract altogether even though I pre-ordered the 4S?

I have had it with ATT. I preordered because I didnt feel like waiting on line for 4 hours, anticipating a huge turn out. Now we're stuck waiting for ATT meanwhile I could walk into a store and get it in 30 minutes. It's RUBBISH. It's bad business.

I preordered it on 8th. Give me a date, an approximation, SOMETHING.

I did not receive an email order confirmation from AT&T either, however, I was still able to check on the status of my order through their Order Status page.

I did not get an order confirmation email. I ordered in the store on the 17th via direct fill is that different then a standard order? My status says backordered when I look it up. The only email I received was on device tutorials.

I actually went to a store and pre-ordered on 10/7 -- and I am also on backorder! I thought they could fulfill the 10/7 orders. Apparently, they didn't even have enough to last the first day! I just wish they would have told me, but they said I would get it on time -- I was expecting to receive my phone on 10/14. Do they not have simple computer programs that track orders vs. inventory so that the ATT employees can inform customers properly? A little info on possible ship dates would be nice.

Hey..first time posting but been reading a lot

I pre-ordered a 64 gb black iphone 4S on Oct 7th at around 4pm....been back ordered too....

I just checked my status on ATT...it is not back ordered anymore.....it was an hour ago so it must of just changed and i also called the number for checking order status and it doesnt say back order anymore, now it says my shipment is being processed.....so i hope those of us in this huge back order group are being taken care of finally.....

I did the exact thing- went to ATT store on the 7th and preordered.  Was told I would have both phones by the 14th.  Online status still says processing.  How are people getting credits for the confusion?  I called the store where my order was placed but they just apologized and asked for patience......

I ordered mine on the 7th, and now it it the 19th and no iphone 4s yet.  I called CS several times, and they can't even find my order, (wasted hours on the phone).  But yet I got an email confirmation stating that I got and order number starting with TORDXXXXXXXX, I'm assuming the TORD is a telephone order, because I did ordered with it over the phone with a CSR. I tried to tracking the order using the order status, nothing would come up, still saying I have to wait 24 hrs, but its been 12 days since I order.  So I'm very frustrated because I'm still in the dark about this, I don't even know if I have an order on file or not.  Just finished talking to a CSR earlier, and he said that all backorders are having to wait between 21-28 days now!!! What a slap in the face from ATT, this is a big scam to get us to preorder.

On the macrumors at&t shipping status thread a couple people who ordered on the 7th in store said their order status just changed somtime this afternoon to show nothing in the backordered column...

Anyone here seeing anything?

I ordered oct 7, Mine just changed within an hour ago....

I also called the 1-877-782-8870 number and my order is not on back order anymore....its being processed for shipping

Until the phone is in my hand and working and i can actually make a phone call...thats when ill say congrats....ive been on the phone with ATT and in the store everyday almost...one day my order is lost..another day it says i ordered a 32gb instead of 64 gb....TODAY i got a phone call saying my porting number over transaction is being canceled b/c if you dont activate the phone at least 15 days since you port the number over, they cancel it (oct 7 + 15 days = oct 22....) so than its like well you didnt send me a phone yet....???

We now have zeros in our "backordered" column - we ordered Oct 7 in store. cel3k I hope that doesn't happen to us as well, that phone better get here soon! Did you call them to tell them to shove it?

Yes, I called them and they said its an automatic computer thing and the porting department extended it till nov 8th......so just crossing my fingers...hoping the right phone shows up soon.......

How did you get them to cancel your order. I changed my mind and want the 32gb and not the 16gb that I ordered. I did this in the store via direct fulfillment. I called customer care and they said they could not cancel the order since I ordered it in the store and that I would need to go to the store where I ordered it and they could cancel it and get the 32gb ordered for me. UGH so Frustrated!

Yes it is a little annoying. And with nothing to offset the hassle at that. I ordered my phone and left a nice month to month set up behind to get locked into a 2 year contract of terrible service. I've had to spend 4 hours of phone time just helping ATT find out 1. what went wrong and 2. confirming that I did in fact place an order. All because of a customer service rep getting my email address wrong. I already regret the contract. If I had just spent the 4 hours in line at a store I would already have my phone. Thanks AT&T.
