I called Target today and they had the Iphone 4S 16 gig white that I ordered through Att in stock so I cancelled my order and went and picked one up! Have it in hand right now! love it except I can't get the itunes to sync!

How did you cancel it, i was told i could not.

No you can cancel it, you just call ATT (611) and talk to a rep and just tell them you want to cancel your order. Youll be eligible for your upgrade again within like 2-5 hours of canceling your order. I was told this yesterday on the phone. The lady said that it wasnt worth canceling orders because sometimes the computers mess up and it doesnt notice it or something, she also said anyone who ordered in October should have their Iphones within a week.

since a local target had them in stock, i thought eh.....i'll just cancel my order and grab one. mmmm.....no, not quite.

apparently it was possible for the at&t to do an override for an early upgrade, but simply IMpossible (according to the store manager) to cancel my order and set my eligibility date as of that day so I could go somewhere else and get one.

of course this was after i called in to the store, spoke to a rep who said it was totally OK + no problem, and to come on down. so i drove 30 minutes and was greeted by worthless middle management who knew how to say nothing other than no.

talk to the STORE manager and not the asst manager. i would go back and demand they cancel your pre order due to the long wait time.  i have read a few stories on here how ppl got their pre orders canceled and upgrade date reset.they just don;t want to do it so they wont lose that money.   good luck hope you get a 4S soon. its been 30 days now since preo rder have been taken. i got my 4S 10/15/11 from the apple store  and i was there only 30 minutes and left with 4S in my hand.

Thanks. You should have seen the way the guy stonewalled me. And of course, he claimed there was no-one of greater authority there that I could talk to. I was too tired to fight it.......AT&T honestly is just so inept most of they time they have seriously worn me out. The stories I could tell....

One a + note, the order went off backorder today. Delivery set for 11/10 (so UPS says).

So, ordered 10/31 in-store (san jose, CA). Off backorder 11/8.

BTW, I would cancel my order but AT&T has already debited the money from my account, so it would be a hassle for me to wait for my refund then go get the phone locally.
I am a new customer, and not upgrading.

Ordered 64GB IP4S/BLK 10/27/2011 (13 days ago) over the phone, but my e-mail address was incorrect I called on the 28th they corrected it and then I accepted the new agreement, so that is why it shows 10/28/2011--still on backorder.

By the way, in addition to everyone reporting here, I would be highly interested in what the Order Number means in terms of when you will be getting the phone?

Ordered the white 16GB on 11/2. The order changed from backorder to processing this morning and is now shipping from Texas. It should arrive by tomorrow afternoon! I'm soooooo excited!

Update: I ordered a White 16GB & a Black 16GB on 10/21. Yesterday, I recieved the White 16GB from FedEX around 4PM (18 days after ordering). Today I'll be reciving the Black 16GB, also from FedEX.

The guy @ AT&T told us anywhere from 21-28 days to ship it out, luckily we got 'em before the estimated time. Seems like they're sending out orders faster and faster each day.

The notification went from backorder to processing 2 days ago, but i did not get the shipping notification yet.

ORDERED MY ON 10/14 BY CALLING AT&T.  OF COURSE, IT DIDN'T GO THROUGH UNTIL 10/19 FOR SOME UNKNOWN REASON... JUST TACKED 5 MORE DAYS ON TO MY ORDER.)  I  WAS  ALSO TOLD 14-21 DAYS ORIGINALLY.  THEN LAST WEEK THEY TOLD ME IT SHOULD BE 21-28 DAYS.. RIGHT. THANKS.

Yep, ordered it on 9/14 @ 9:00 AM.  Got no emails to let me know it was back-ordered or that there was any problems with my order.  The first time I realized it was on backorder, and I checked everyday, was today when I logged into my AT&T account.  Again no emails to let me know it was back-ordered, I had to search through the AT&T site and click through to Order Statues.  I GUESS THAT'S HOW YOU TRY TO COVER UP A FLUB, I'm going to try to cancel it and finally be free of AT&T.

Where Could I file a formal complein?. Did order on the 14th two units@ 3:14am. One 16gb and the other 32gb. My wife unit the 16gb arrived on time on friday, mines remain on backorders status. Any store wanna assume responsability neither customer service. 14 calls to customer service with differents story. Anyone Have an advice on this matter? Thank's!

Suspect the issue was that the 32GB phones sold out before the 16GB phones, so your wife got her phone and yours is on back order.  Not sure filing a complaint will get you a phone any faster.  If they dont have your phone yet, they don't have your phone.
