Alright.. my apple order just changed to "prepared for shipment" & although I should be stoked, I'm actually really nervous.
I've wanted an iphone for a while now & when my contract expired I waited months for the new iphone to be released.. but now that it has, all I've seen are complaints & issues from people.
Is everyone having issues with it? (that's what it seems like at the apple forums).
If you've had issues, have you had any trouble exchanging or returning the phone?
I'm hoping it's not as bad as it all seems.. mostly because I know a lot of people who have had positive experiences with apple & their iphone products in the past, & because I'm not looking forward to going back to my 3 year old Blackberry hah.

Most of what people say are over-doing the situation, plus, this is a "support" message board, so it's normal to only read about issues, because people are here for support, plus, if you have any issues with your new iPhone 4, bring it into your Apple Store and they will fix or replace it.

I don't have my iPhone 4 yet. But one thing to keep in mind about forums... people usually go there to complain. If you were to count up all the people who have posted complaints, I think it would amount to a tiny percentage of the 1.7 million phones sold (even more by now, that number is a few days old).
People don't typically take the time to visit a forum and post that their phone is working properly. They are out enjoying their phones!
So I wouldn't worry about it. It seems like the vast majority of people are having no problems.

That's what I try to keep telling myself-- that support forums are for complaints.. but man, it sure seems like a lot of complaints ya know?
I just wanted to make sure no one was having issues with exchanges or returns if these issues are as serious as they're made out to be. I have an apple store about 40 minutes away, so going there isn't a huge deal for me.

there here mainly for help and yes somtimes complaints
but ill tell you, your phone will be fine
If it isnt up to par, exchanging or replacing via an apple store will prove no issues
(cept maybe they dont have any phones)
but in all honesty
dont panic
relax and enjoy your phone when it arrives

Out of 1.7 million iPhone 4's sold, there are bound to be some that have issues and that's what most people come on these boards, lookinf for help with problems. I just ordered mine today. Chances are it will be fine. If not, you always have 30 days to take it back.

Well, Let's llok at a few numbers... 1.7 million sold... 1,700,000 sold. If you assume thay have a 0.1% failure rate (meaning 99.9% "success" rate) then you hvae about 1,700 phones that have a "failure". That could be about right for the forum activity we are seeing, but they may have a failure rate as high as 0.5% due to the rus to ship. That would increase the failures up to about 8,500 failures. As others have said, these being support forums, you will tend to find more peole here with problems than people without, and because they are having prblems, it is human nature to be more vocal and complain louder...
Also keep in mind that most of the complaints I've been seeing are due to the ordering process. Many people have had issues with their orders or shipping delays. Then you run into people like me who weren't able to pre-order during the window of availability on the 15th, so I hoped to get a phone from my ocal store. I arrived early on the morning of the 29th and they had already sold out of all the 32GB models. The clerk suggested I come back on Fri. 02 July because he expected a new delivery that day and I should be able to get one then. When I returned, I learned that the first clerk should have had me perform one of the DFO driect orders, but he didn't so I am still without a phone. In consolation, I am learning that some people who did order on 15 June, are in the same boat with me, as they still don't have a phone or any idea when they will be able to get one. TO make matters worse, you have people performing the "direct orders" from AT&T and also putting their names on the waiting lists at the other stores, so now that one person is tieing up the order process for 2 or 3 others as they are reserving phones through each possible channel and only planing to buy one of them.
I am sitting here now with the expectation that it will be late July to early August before I can get one of these new iPhones. On the bright side, the accessory market should have plenty of chance to get their products out before I get my phone, so I shouldn't have to worry about waiting a long time to get a case, or a new dock, or a new car mount, or... Also, I expect that by the time I am able to get one, that Apple will probably have a minor OS update to release. I'm sure that they will find some minor issues and get them fixed fairly soon, maybe even some larger issues.

I do have the antenna issue, don't have the proximity sensor issue, but overall I'm going to keep it. I would have gotten a case anyway to be honest, and I'm certainly not an apple fanboy just keeping it because of that. It's still a terrible design flaw but the phone overall is great and I'm pretty sure most people would agree.

I have said it before and I will say it again you can't call it a design flaw when not every unit experiences the issue.

The only problem i have is the proximity sensor, the thing that blanks out the screen when you hold it close to your face for a call. I ALWAYS accidently put them on speaker or try to facetime them lol.
