How do I transfer my iPad 3G account from my current iPad to the iPad 2?
Reason I ask, my 3G account is up for the monthly renewal on Thursday, 3/10. I'd renew it if I knew I could easily transfer the account to the new iPad 2 I plan to buy on 3/11.
Or should I just cancel my current revolving account and then start a new one once I get the new iPad?

If you have a capped/tiered data plan you can do it either way. But I would probably just cancel and then start new on the iPad 2.
If you have the Unlimited Data plan you will want to transfer it in order to keep the unlimited plan.
Here is what I've seen so far for transferring:

You would think you could just swap the SIM cards but maybe ATT is tracking them to try and prevent people from using their iPad SIM with unlimited data in other devices. So a swap to the iPad 2 might lock it out sensing an non-original iPad IMEI causing a loss of the plan.
We'll know more after the 11th.

Thanks! Seems like AT&T has made it easy to transfer the account to the new 2. I'll have to rethink the cancellation of my renewal...

It looks like the answer is yes. AT&T will allow grandfathered unlimited Ipad data plans to transfer to the ipad 2.

Go to: www.att.com/ipadlanding edit payment information link...then update the following two fields: IMEI: ICCID: You get this info from the iPad (1 or 2) selct 'Settings' then 'General' then 'About'... The IMEI and ICCID info is on that screen. No need to swap the SIM cards. This process outlined above transfers service instantly and does NOT change the plan type, billing, user info, or days remaining. Basically anytime an ATT customer wants to move a data plan the ATT iPad web page is all you need. No phone call! Windows Vista |

After changing the numbers (IMEI and ICCID) you will have to restart the iPad in order to have it establish a new connection with AT&T and associate itself with you account.

I have a unlimited plan that started with first gen ipad. Grandfathered in ipad 2. Now I purchase new ipad and because you can only have 2 ipads on unlimited plan I wanted to transfer the unlimited plan from first gen ipad to new ipad but what actually happened is it transfered the ipad 2 unlimited to new ipad. Can I just switch sim from first gen Ipad to ipad 2 and solve problem. I only want 2nd gen and 3rd gen to have data plan.

Content you've purchased or installed for free from the App Store and iTunes on your iPad might not be transferred automatically to the iTunes library on your computer. To make sure all of your media and apps are properly backed up, you can transfer purchases manually before backing up and syncing your iPad . To transfer purchases to your computer follow these steps:
1. Connect your iPad to the computer and open iTunes.
2. Make sure that iTunes is authorized and you are logged into your account. From the top menu choose Store -> Sign In. To authorize the computer for use with your account select Store -> Authorize This Computer.
3. From the left menu under DEVICES right-click on the name of your iPhone (Windows) or Control-click (Mac) to display the shortcut menu.
4. Choose the Transfer Purchases from iPhone option.
